Ah, it is finally on the road, but a question.

I finally got my SVX on the road yesterday.
What can I say, it got to 110 rather quickly. Anyway, after strugling with finding a windshield, replacing bearings, etc., and getting it on the road, I am thinking the STRUTS NEED REPLACED...

Have done a few quick searches trying to find the best supplier for this online.

Any suggestions???

These guys seem to have the cheapest prices, anyone ordered from them???
http://www.autopartsgiant.com

Also when doing a search on SubaruParts.com, it lists two stuts for each side, one about $80-100 the other about $160-180. I am confused.

Thanks.

-Trent

Approximate prices from Kerven Subaru:

20311PA001 Pt830593 Strut Cp F $89.67
20311PA011 Pt830593 Strut Cp F $89.67
20360PA001 Pt840593 Strut Cp R $72.42
20360PA011 Pt840593 Strut Cp R $72.42

(4) 023512006 Nut Self Lock $1.36 ea.

Always replace a self locking nut, Don't reuse.

In addition, you will need a 6mm allen deep socket, an 11/16" 6 pt spark plug socket, a crows foot that fits the spark plug socket and a good locking, set of spring compressors. These springs are really stiff and need to be compressed a lot to get the struts apart.

I am actually changing mine right now. I hope to have the instructions and photos uploaded by the end of next weekend.

Doug

Just thought I'd mention that depending on how much you drove your car in the winter, there may be more that needs to be replaced than just the struts themselves. The rear upper rubber spring seat tends to deteriorate badly as does the rear upper strut mount. There are some pictures in my locker. If the front end of you car goes "clunk" when you hit a bump, this may be the front upper strut mount. There is a big bearing inside it (allowing the strut to twist when the wheels are turned), and this bearing becomes notched over time which I believe causes the clunk. The strut mount is not always the cause of the clunk, but it was for my car.

I've already posted a fairly detailed set of instructions, that Earl said he was going to post in the "how-to" section. I hadn't realized that an 11/16" spark plug socket was a good solution for the needed deep well socket to loosen the strut nut. Maybe our how-to's can be put together.

This is a shameless plug, but while you've got the struts out, I'd recommend installing a set of my performance strut springs which will be available soon.

Realistically, you could have a set at your doorstep in 1 month. I can't say anything on price yet. Give me a day or two to determine that.
