The only SVX with speed limiters are the JDM models. In Japan, all cars are legally required to have a 180km/h limiter.

The rumour about a limiter in the 94+ US models is completely untrue.

Re: Top Speed

I just noticed the SVX in that video has the ECON light showing on the dash. Why would you be concerned about fuel economy while driving at 160mph?

Can someone confirm this? I thought every ECU/TCU combination had some sort of rev limit in it? So what is the limit on a stock US post-94 SVX?

If the limit is above 5400RPM (max HP) and one takes the reported top speed of 143MPH at 4890 RPM and extends that up to 5400 RPM one gets 158MPH for the stock car. Seems reasonable but it assumes that Subaru perfectly matched the final drive ratio for max speed at the RPMs for max HP. And even if drag and parasitic losses make you come up a little short of 158MPH, it probably doesn't take much in terms of better gas or slight tweaks to bump the HP up a little.

Re: Top Speed

There is a rev limit at 6700rpm. I guess you could say that limits the top speed to 195mph, but it's sort of a moot point.

Purely to make himself feel better about going that fast

I would never try to operate a video camera while driving, let alone at those speeds...

yes, b3lha has confimed it by actually reading the actual coding of both the ecu and tcu. Again, the top speed isnt actually 143, that was a joke referring to the wikipedia posted info because someone believes and is adamit about changing wiki to what a car magazine posted in the mag no matter how often someone corrects it to what it should be.

also, manufacturers are never going to tune or gear a car for maximum speed. Its tuned or geared based on the amount of power in the motor, the type of driving it is meant for, etc. The exception would be the million dollar super cars that are built with breaking the speed records at the time.

It would seem that this car is tuned for max speed from the standpoint of setting the gear ratio in 4th to have the car reach its max speed at the same RPM it reaches max HP. If they geared it for acceleration, and reduced tranny stress, the car probably wouldn't reach as high of a top speed as max HP would occur at a speed lower than theoretical max. The car would then continue to pull to higher RPMs but the HP would be dropping so the max speed would be at some lower value consistent with the lower HP.

Re: Top Speed

I have often wondered what the top speed of my SVX is... There is so little out there on the FWD models. I have had it to around 130-140mph according to the speedo, but had a goofy shifting problem due to my speed sensor #2 wiring being cracked. It was still accelerating when it tried to shift from 3rd to 4th, but the darn engine would stall between shifts :/ Now that the shifting problem is gone, I really wanna try this baby out on a long stretch of track and see where she goes....

Do yall think the FWD slighly lower gearing would help out in this regard? I made this video a while back when I had my car in the air.

Why didnt the embedding work???
heres a link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jtFxYlBy1Dk

If you pause it right at 20 seconds into the video, at 5400 rpm (peak horsepower) The car is going around 153mph (again according to the often inaccurate speedometer)

I really think that 153 is doable..... what do yall think??

Hit 155 in my old FWD... Never bothered to run the limits on the silver but prob could have done 165 or so before it ran out of revs. Never pushed any of my other SVXes above 140

Re: Top Speed

Was the fwd finished at 155? Or did it have something left to give?
