sad day for the slayer
Today I went rummaging through a local junkyard where I knew they had an SVX with parts available. When the manager gave me a print out of where the Subies were and in which row, I headed on my journey. As I embarked on my search for parts, I made my stop at the first SVX in row G.
It honestly hurt to look at what was left. It wasn't that the engine was gone or that the windows were missing(not taken out rather, but broken) but the shape of the car. It was hit in every which way, like a freak freeway accident. The second SVX wasn't in any better condition. but a lot of major parts were present, unlike the first. The third one is what got me. Stripped of all her beauty in a roll over. Crushed roof and everything. Didn't even look like an SVX at all. I did find the shield that brags about what the engine is. The one with H-6 on it. As I was about to leave, I looked for a few things on my shopping list for other people. I made a trip back to each SVX. I found nothing. I'm not sure if it was just me or the fact that there are so few SVX's left, but watching these works of beauty and a piece of Japanese history fade into non-existence, killed me. It was so hard to hold back tears. Just typing this post is bringing me to the bounds of teary eyes. I don't mean to sound melodramatic. I guess this just proves to myself that my love for cars is deeper than just driving them. The craftsmanship and ingenuity for building the beast is fansastic. The cars held up to the abuse, and in every SVX I saw, I'm sure the driver walked away with a new lease on life. So the moral of this post is this. Don't take for granted that your car or your life will last forever, because all good things must eventually come to an end. Or make of it whatever you want. Keith

I hear ya, anytime I see a totaled SVX it really tears at me.
A love affair with a car? Maybe.

No maybe's about it in my case. Love at first sight pretty much sums it up. Glad to find so many kindred spirits on this board, learning to deal with those places where the beauty of the car is only skin deep. Perfection, especially in Automobiles, is a Dream.

I know about that same love affair with cars - I've had it for almost 20 yrs now (I'm 26). I really hate going to junk yards - worst thing I've seen wrecked was a '99 3000GT VR4. They only brought 45 VR4's to the US in that year - and one was sitting smashed in a junk yard. SVX's, NSX's, 300ZX's even new 350Z's and Evo's are in junkyards all over the East Coast.
I guess if you drive fast and reckless, it will inevitably catch up with you... Luckily these cars are all well built and most owners are able to walk away unharmed. Quote:

And I would be delighted just to SEE another SVX on the road......I have NEVER seen one besides mine...
And would REALLY hurt, if the first one a saw, was wrecked in that way. Rumors tell me that there exists one up north from where I live and one in western parts...but I don't know for sure. PS. Then I have to be "fastest" around, wouldn't I /Sonny

I have yet to see another svx on the road. I traveled over 10k miles in 2 months all of Florida and still didn't see one...my bad luck i guess. Unfortunetly i saw one in my town....a wrecked one, the whole front end was torn off of it. It almost brought me to tears...and the worst part was that it wasn't even a local car and i never could locate it to salvage the parts. The poor baby was mangled.

I've been known to be quite the parts scavenger in my time (not nearly as bad as Mike though ), but it still tugs at my heartstrings every time I walk out to see a new parts car and see it for the first time.
Every time a SVX dies, another small piece of the histroy is chipped away.

One month later
Went back to the junkyard today. Lot of internal pieces still left as far as interior. If you plan on heading to Reno for the meet and have time to take a look and see if you need any parts, let me know. I can't guarantee anything, but it is a come get it sort of deal. One car even had leather seats, if anyone is interested.

I haven't seen a wrecked SVX yet, but I do know how you feel. I have spent almost 5k in the three months I have had my car just fixing the things the idiot before me did to it. And it isn't the money loss that hurts, it is knowing that someone can have a car as amazing as this and think he can treat it like a Ford Taurus.

whats even sadder is
to see people part a nice car out just because it needs
a trans and or other repairs and they are too cheap to do the right thing. That bugs more even more. Im trying to buy up any SVXs that need trannys, and get them back on the road as I can, instead of see them become parts cars.
