whose english doesn't make sense - Sonar's, mine, whatever....the 4 position switch on the console of Sonar's car, and mine, just offset from the gearbox panel, is for power adjusting the pitch height of the headlights, if the car is heavy laden. In normal road trim it improves the light spread if set on the highest pitch, but on tends to 'blind' oncoming drivers.

If it's the the Ant its the Ant(enna), and if its the one in the middle on the left it adjust the headlights for load or makes tham them marginally less useless if turned all the way to the right.

Like I said, my english is not THAT good...

Sonar -Zamorush posted a question earlier about a switch on your console, and I was trying to reply helpfully - and now what? everybody's speaking in tongues, as they say in the Bible. As someone else said.. we are divided by a common language.

I think that 30mpg+ is certainly possible, although I've never tried it. Obviously I'm talking English gallons, not US.

It seems odd to me that some people are measuring their mpg while driving at 75mph or more. That is much too fast to be economical. The faster you go, the more air resistance you will encounter and the more fuel you must burn to overcome it.

Here's how I would go about it:

Find a big truck doing a steady 55 on the motorway, get up real close behind so you're in his slipstream, then lock on the cruise control and sit there for 3 hours - although it will feel like 6 hours. (Read a newspaper or something to keep awake ).

Even better, slot in between two trucks to benefit from front and rear slipstream effect.

This is what I do when the low-fuel light is on and I'm 50 miles from the next petrol station. The rest of the time I drive like a maniac, and don't care about fuel economy.

You know, it's very possible that the day I got 31.4mpg I had a strong tailwind. I was driving through northeastern Ohio, which is very flat and can be very windy.

Of course, we've already determined that I'm a liar because this is simply not possible, so I suppose that there's no point in exploring the subject any more. Right, Rob?

If I read that right..(and the odds seem to be against me on that...) You guys in Europe can aim your headlights from inside the car???

Not true...I get my best mileage at a steady 95 MPH cruise with the TC locked up at just under 3,000 RPMs.

Yup, the switch has four settings which drive a little cam motor increasing or decreasing the vertical angle of the inner (9006/HB3 or for us H3) headlight. If you are 20 feet behind a car, the angle can be varied from the top of the beam matching their bumper up to it striking the top of their bootlid - approx. I use it lot on country roads to accent the lights best for the driving conditions. It doesn't do much but it gives me the impression that I'm in control........

I don't think your dishonest. But considering the fact that you could not comprehend a very simple idea I presented a while back about the majority of one group being less intelligent (which still leaves room for PLENTY of extremely intelligent people like yourself) than the majority of another group.... maybe you did the math wrong.

there's the truth as told, there's banter, there's b.s. and there's downright cohones - first person to coax 35 mpg out of a SVX wins a retirement home.

Here it is, the documented trip home :)

Hi!

To once and for all prove that my gas milage numbers are not fantasy, I agreed to make this documented trip!

(I hope all the links are working... )

Thursday at 5:16PM I headed for home

As I promised you I documented the trip with my digital camera, but the flash died on me early, so the images was not so good

Ok, I started from work around 5PM, on the way to apartment I filled gas, packed my things and started for home.

The temprature was around -10 cels.

The tires I'm using are "Viking Stop 4000" studded, and with a really good grip http://193.12.43.114/travel/dsc00008.jpg
http://193.12.43.114/travel/dsc00014.jpg

Took some pictures on the tripmeter and the time (resetted when I filled the gas) http://193.12.43.114/travel/dsc00015.jpg
http://193.12.43.114/travel/dsc00016.jpg
http://193.12.43.114/travel/dsc00018.jpg

And hit the road ...

A picture on the road (very "fuzzy") http://193.12.43.114/travel/dsc00022.jpg

Paused for a cup of coffee, arrived around 6:50 (forgot to take a pic of the time) http://193.12.43.114/travel/dsc00031.jpg

Back in the car i remembered to take a picture http://193.12.43.114/travel/dsc00032.jpg

On the road again http://193.12.43.114/travel/dsc00038.jpg

At last I arrived to my nearest gasstation, about 50km from home, now has the time of truth arrived!
here I'm gonna fill the tank and se what the consumption has been. (very bad pic.) http://193.12.43.114/travel/dsc00042.jpg

and some pics on the meters http://193.12.43.114/travel/dsc00043.jpg
http://193.12.43.114/travel/dsc00044.jpg

Ok, filling her up http://193.12.43.114/travel/dsc00045.jpg
http://193.12.43.114/travel/dsc00046.jpg

And the pump stopped at http://193.12.43.114/travel/dsc00047.jpg

A picture on the receit http://193.12.43.114/travel/dsc00048.jpg

and the time http://193.12.43.114/travel/dsc00051.jpg

Resetted the tripmeter, and on the way again, only 45-50km home now http://193.12.43.114/travel/dsc00053.jpg

Home at last... http://193.12.43.114/travel/dsc00057.jpg
http://193.12.43.114/travel/dsc00058.jpg
http://193.12.43.114/travel/dsc00059.jpg

Summary:

From start to the tankstop the total time standing still is approx. 20minutes, and the distance was

354.8km and the travel time was 3 hours and 44 minutes.

I filled 29.76 Litres of fuel, and that gives 0,8387 L/10km.

You can convert that to "mpg" or whatever you like
