Alternator

So i got an alternator from Napa, took my old one out and pretty much put the new one in...The problem i'm having (i dont have a hayes manual or anything) is that i cant get the lower left hand screw in...it doesn't seem to line up well. Is there some sort of tensioner to loosen the slack on the belt? Theres that diaganol screw on the lower left hand side of the alternator under the power steering pump; is that a tensioner for the belt?
any help would be appreciated.

thanks

If you're talking about this screw: http://www.subaru-svx.net/photos/fil...ubjay/1818.jpg

Yes, it's to adjust belt tension.

You need to install the alternator before installing the belt. The tensioner has a pulley located just under and to the left of the alternator. First, loosen the 12mm pulley nut, then loosen the tensioner bolt (see Randy's picture) until the belt will slip over all the pulleys, then tighten tensioner and finally tighten the pulley nut.

If you follow the belt to the idle pulley, there is a 12mm nut on the front, center of the pulley itself that holds the tensioner from moving.

I loosen it about a full turn when I remove or install the belt.

The tensioner bolt requires about 10 full turns to get enough slack to slip the belt on.

thanks again
