Soldering the MAF

I have the slight hesitation upon take off and my idle is not as smooth as it should be. Before I take out my ECU and check it for the noise suppressor bead, I want to check and resolder my MAF just to be sure the connections are good and stay that way. I've never done any soldering, but know I can do it. But, is there any specific type of soldering material that should be used?

Has anyone done this? Did it run better, smooth the out idle, or take away the hesitation?

i resoldered mine, because of a massive stalling issue. limited myself to cleaning off old solder and applying new beads. using the proper gasket material to resealed the unit. worked like a champ. check the connection housing as well, for any corrosion and clean that out with some rolled to a point sandpaper and just roll it on the contacts. afterwards, i cleaned the sensor with MAF cleaner and let dry.

Do what you will, but I dont think the MAF if your idle/hesitation problem. I subscribe to the Aint broke-Dont fix it ideology. Especially if you dont have experience soldering, you may do more harm than good.

If you want to do it anyways, use rosin-core solder, and have a wet sponge or cloth to wipe the old solder off the tip of the gun with. Apply a small amount to the tip of the iron and then lightly press on the contact. They have a copper type gauze you can use to absorb the old solder with once its melted, leaving the contact bare and ready for the new stuff.

hopefully this is the suspect...with the FURLOUGH i cant afford to keep throwing money at my baby....i have a spare one laying around so i hope that'll fix it other wise i will try the resolder and continue troubleshooting....ughhh

This has made my day. As I suck at soldering I had a friend do this. As of this writhing I just save a lot of money.

Runs like its new again. Priced a new one at the dealer and its $400. Car is at 197k and that was the only problem.

I had the same problem, I would give it gas and it would not increase RPM until the pedal hit a certain point. I did re-solder the points from the how-to, but I noticed another joint that dis-bonded from the circuit board. I installed a jumper wire to the 2 points in the picture and I have not had a problem since.
