stage oem or stage 2 clutch?

I was wondering whether or not it would be better to go with a stage 2 clutch over a stage 1(oem) clutch?

Re: stage oem or stage 2 clutch?

allways been a fan of Exedy twinplate clutches... Dunno if it has enough mass for the SVX but they hold awesome and don't murder your leg. The 04 STi with one for example will start to have serious issues with a lightweight crank AND the twinplate due to it thinking its misfiring (too little mass to smooth firing events) Its all down to the ECU so the SVX might not care at all...

Re: stage oem or stage 2 clutch?

I'm going to agree with the SPEC stage 2 recommendations already given. YT put a stage 1 in Racer X (per my request!) and it does slip a little when you get into it . Now the engine in Racer X is definitely not stock (cams, 2v7,phenolic spacers, true ram air system, etc., etc.), so a stage 1 might be okay for a totally stock engine....

The Stage 2 is very streetable and can be driven very smoothly in stop and go traffic without getting tired.

Tim,
Trust me, I'm kicking myself for not investing the additional $$ and getting the stage 2....

Re: stage oem or stage 2 clutch?

Are we only talking 5MT's here? I can see the stock WRX clutch being pressed by the EG33, but not the STi's.

I have a stage 1 aftermarket (more like stage 1.5) and it does slip occasionally. It really depends on the clutch's mood.
Despite that, there is a little too much grab in first gear, and also depending on it's mood, the car will jerk violently if I let off the gas at the wrong time. Maybe it's just a crap clutch plate.

If you're going to race, yes, stage 2 for sure. If you're just going to drive it around lazily it probably won't matter.

Re: stage oem or stage 2 clutch?

I had the F1 racing Stage 1. I ended up selling it because of all the horror stories with cheaper clutches. I feared I would have had to do it again and it would have cost me more in the end. Definitely try to hold out and save for the better clutch if you can.
