One of the better 5 speed boxes might be the Australian delivered RS Liberty turbo's? Or the early WRX's?

They had a 3.9 final drive, vs most of the Japanese imported ones, and later model ones that had 4.11 or 4.44.

It's a fairly big job to change the crown wheel and pinion on the 5 speeds to go to a different ratio.

The 6 speeds are definitely setup to skip ratios...2nd 4th and 6th would be manageable on around town and the highway.

The first thing the guys on the RS liberty club do on a modded RS is ditch the weak 3.9, and go for the 4.11 for 4.44 conversion, the later are stranger boxes and the ratios are better for boost aplications of the vf series turbos


........ probly a useless fact, just felt like spilling

These would give you good service...not sure what ratios they'll be...I suspect 4.444's, with overdrive 4th and 5ths'.

Would be a reasonable box I'd think.
