service & tyres

Hi Guys, just wondering if any of you have any advice on Subaru Dealers for service in Sydney, both good and bad. I'm close to Tom Kerr but a dealship's service is only as good as the mechanics that work there so was wondering.
Also, what is the recommended tyres from what you use, seeing we do not need all seasons or snow tyres like most places?

cheers
bruce

Bruce, i have not had chgance to say hi to you yet, so there it is , im jake, i live down south in the southern highlands, i would love to here about your SVX, colour, how long you have had it etc. And prehaps meet up sometime!

In regards to service, i asked the same question when i joined the forum, and was told Penrith Sti was the best, so i went there and i was very impressed with the place, only problem is its in penrith, but its worth the trip as they still have staff trained on SVX service specs ect, even list the svx as one of the models they service on their invoice

Tyres i have had are NEXEN and Kelly, both = cheap and nasty, not vey good grip at all, so next time i will be saving for longer and putting something better on, perelli or michelin, for get dunlop, very noisy on our cars.

Look forward to hearin from ya
Cheers,
Jake

Penrith Subaru is my recommendation and where I used to get my car serviced (drove from Carlingford and later, Artarmon over there!)

At the time, admittedly over 2 years ago now, they knew the SVX's inside out and actually were very fond of the cars - a few of the salespeople and the senior service staff had been trained on them from the early days of their release.

Tire wise, I would go for the best you can afford - no point having a great 4wd drivetrain with all the toys and then putting rubbish shoes on it - like making Carl Lewis sprint in clogs!

Was back in Sydney for a while but not hot enough so now in Dubai! Has it been that long since I owned SVX-33H!

Since I have a full set of the SVX Service Manuals, I do almost all of the servicing myself!

......I am a big believer in the "if you want something done right, do it yourself" philosophy...........

Whenever any servicing is required that I am unable to do, I enlist the services of my mechanic - who lets me watch everything he does as he works on my car!

I agree completely with James's comments on tyres - don't be tempted to save money! I have Pirelli P7s on my SVX, which are a very good compromise between traction, comfort, and road noise.

Jason.

Thanx

Thanks for the feedback. Tom Kerr is literally 5 mins away, but like a lot of dealer service these days, they charge an awful lot and at the end of the day they don't really give you anyfeedback on the car, any error codes discovered - I am much like Jason and prefer to do it right the first time - although time to do all I want is not always available.
The SVX I Have is 1995 model,Red paint in fair condition, 110 k and overall in very good condition. No indiction of the timing belt ever being changed, and would like to put it up on a hoist and check the engine mounts and underside - the manuals hard to find?

As for tyres, thanks again, just did'nt want to spend money on tyres to find they were known to be noisy or aquaplane really bad in the wet. Our 1990 Liberty had Michelin MXV tyres from new, lasted 70,000km / 5 yrs - just brilliant, went to replace them and the tyre was supeceeded with MXV2 - same tyre just different compound and last only 1/2the distance

cheers
bruce

YES! They are!!!

I contacted 5 different dealers to get them, and they then took over 2 months to arrive!!! However, if you plan to work on your own SVX, they are an invaluable reference.
