Next Big Meet: 2004 Awards Banquet

Hey Gang,

I will be there for all events with the silver bullet! Sorry I haven't been on for a while. There has been some pretty crazy stuff going on in life and with the holidays. You should see me back on here more often now. I just had the right CV replaced at Smart yesterday. Now just tires, bearings and valve cover gasket to replace... doh!

Come One, Come All to the Seattle Breakfast & Waterfront Tour, a tour of mystery and intrigue, an experience to tingle the imagination and sooth the soul!

We’ll start at Beth’s Café, a Seattle landmark for 50 years. If you leave this place hungry, it’s your fault.

After breakfast, we’ll cross Phinney Ridge on our way to the fabled Golden Gardens Park, site of the famous Golden Gardens street drags of the 50’s & 60’s. We might even find an old-timer to tell the story of the night the Corvette racer crashed at the railroad crossing, went up in flames and the Seattle Fire Dept. hosed the liquid fiberglass down the storm drain. (We’ll also take a moment her for a photo op.)

As we leave Shilshole Bay, we’ll pass briefly through downtown Ballard (the only way to see it, really) and cross the Ballard Bridge (notice the Pacific Fishing Fleet moored on both sides of the bridge) on our way to Magnolia Boulevard, past million-dollar homes with million dollar views of Puget Sound and Bainbridge Island.

No time to tarry because we’re off to Fremont, “The Center of the Known Universe”. Wait! What’s that up ahead, hiding under the Aurora Bridge? Why’ it’s the Fremont Troll! (Don’t slow down too much; see that VW he has in his hand? Some poor motorist parked it too close and the Troll got it!)

Green lake is next! We’ll circle the lakeshore and then take a quick run through the University District because our next adventure is Interlaken, the most secluded and little-know street in Seattle. No sidewalks, no houses, just a winding lane through a forest of trees along the hillside. In the middle of the city! Believe It Or Not!

Interlaken brings us to the Washington Arboretum and down twisty roads to Lake Washington Boulevard. We’ll follow the lakeshore all the way to Seward Park (several more opportunities for photo stops).

Then, we head west across Beacon Hill, by the challenging east-to-west route. Everyone stay close so we don’t lose anyone!

When we see the signs for Columbia Way, we know we’re on course for the Spokane Street Viaduct and West Seattle. Harbor Boulevard is our exit, the famed Alki Beach is our objective! (More photo ops, this time with the downtown Seattle skyline as our backdrop!) We’ll cruise Alki, like thousands do here every summer. You’ll recognize it as the place where the beach scenes were shot in the movie “Sleepless in Seattle”. Also notice our very own Statue of Liberty on your right. We’ll continue along the Puget Sound waterfront until the road leads up toward the West Seattle neighborhood and we’ll travel through it to Taco Time on Avalon Way, the end of our tour with easy access back to I-5 and points north and south.

Uhhhhhhhhhhh About a week ago!

Under each event on the web site there is a constantly updating signup list for each respective event (updated daily, as is some of the other info on there).

There is also a seperate thead right here in the NW forum with mirrored information.

Both of these have been going since last week.

Most of you have probably figured out that chances are this weekend is going to be a bit wet.

Don't let that stop you from joining us!

This event is set up specifically this time of year because of the inclement weather - rather than plan a driving tour or some other outdoor event we have dinner indoors (well also works out handy that it is the end of the year for the awards).

The maintenance meet will be fine. Earl has a nice big garage where we can warm up with the coffee and donuts and work on the cars one at a time if we want to. Plenty of other shelter there to gather and look/talk too.

The Winter Classic car show will go on! Sure, our cars may not be perfectly clean after a drive on the wet roads, but everyone will be on equal playing ground (and some of us might actually look better with a nice coat of beaded water on the paint). There will be a shelter set up in the parking lot and the restaurant has room inside to retreat to as well (and a bar if you want it). Bring an umbrella and check out the cars! If all on the sign up list bring their SVX, we may just have the undisputed largest gathering of these cars ever West of the Mississippi!!!!

The banquet of course will go on, indoors in our nice warm and dry private banquet room!

The Sunday Seattle tour just wouldn't be the same without the rain! The city is famous for it, might as well see it this way! (besides, breakfast will be indoors)

Plan to drive up early Sat. in the a.m. for the three events.

May need a place to crash Sat. p.m., a couch or recliner is all I require as I will be packing my trusty sleeping bag & leaving early in the a.m. Sunday.

Can't believe the big day is finally almost here. All the planning and work hopefully will start paying off in a little over 24 hours. Hope everyone on the sign up lists still attends, if so this will go down in the books as one of the great ones.

Any room at the maintenance meet?

I signed up very late yesterday, but I don't see my name on the list yet. Again, as I mentioned when I signed up, I'm most interested in seeing the SVX museum plus learning anything I can about taking good care of my SVX.

I need to know how to get to Earl's. A map would be great, but an address would be good too.

I'm not sure that I can make the show or banquet, since I've agreed to pick up my daughter in Seattle in the mid- afternoon.

Please, let me know ASAP about the maintenance meet!
