Re: Reading 19 ROOMS BOOKED THREAD

When do people usually show up on Friday? I’m working out of Philly that day and will be getting there about 6 ish.

I used to get there about noon on Friday and was the first one there. Others started arriving mid-afternoon. By dinner time things are starting to gel.

When you get there you will see the cluster of SVXs together in the parking lot in front of the hotel registration entrance, usually to the right of the entrance or on the right side of the hotel.

Cars start arriving on Friday afternoon and most people just hang in the lot getting acquainted and reacquainted.

As the day progresses and more and more cars show up, there will be a discussion about dinner. Many just opt for a quick bite at local fast foods or something simple at the hotel restaurant. It quickly takes on a life of its own. Many stay outside (or in the bar area) initially and to very late in the evening. Usually in the parking lot if it is warm. Some go to bed early after a long day of driving.

By Saturday morning, it is like Christmas. How many cars have shown up overnight. The day starts slow with early risers. Breakfast at the hotel to start the day and maybe a quick run to the self service car wash.
The classic Auto Mall, attached to the hotel, is a definite must see. Open from 9:00am-2:00pm Saturday.

379 classics for sale.

This meet is unstructured. Used to have scenic drives, scavenger hunts, raffles, tech sessions, etc. The way it is now is reminiscent of the early Reading meets, more about the people than the events.

Except for one completely rained-out Reading weekend, there has never been a bad Reading. No matter how many people have attended, no two Readings have been alike. We have had as many as many as 77 at Reading 9 and as few as 18 at Reading 15.

Tony,
There is NO room discount as in years past. Every year I used to negotiate a block of rooms early and get a great discount. But the internet and hotel booking websites like Hotels.com and Trivago, etc. have made this more difficult. Individual bookings probably use AARP, AAA and airline miles to probably work in your favor.

The main advantages of the block of reserved rooms was you could cancel up to 6:00PM on the day of arrival without penalty.
Also your CC was never ever charged a penny until after you checked out. No pre-payments or holds against the card.
