disappearing brake fluid

i have a problem that has been bothering me for a while and i can't figure it out. i refill my brake fluid once a week because it slowly goes down to the low line. i have looked my brakes up and down and no leaks. i really don't know where the fluid is going, also the pedal pressure is fine. and finally, my brakes used to shudder then sink and then the problem just gradually went away. any ideas ?

Re: disappearing brake fluid

Did you check under the drivers side dash? You can follow your brake pedal up to see where it connects the rod into the master cylinder. They tend to leak after the inner seals age and go bad.

Yes, it should show along the rod connecting the pedal to the master cylinder, and along the bottom of the MC and below.... you may need to use a white paper towel and dab it to see, since (clean) brake fluid is nearly transparent.

Re: disappearing brake fluid

Actually, the master cylinder is bolted to the vacuum booster assembly , so if the seal leaks, [depending on the type of booster] the fluid can enter the manifold and get burned, thus no signs of leakage.

Re: disappearing brake fluid

Check the seals between your fluid reservoir and master cylinder. (rock the reservoir slightly on the MC and see if there is any fluid seepage. They are starting to seep on my Claret. This could also be your problem.

Re: disappearing brake fluid

Check for brake fluid underneath/around the ABS control unit, if you haven't already.
