Used clutch
So my friend took the act clutch out of his NA impreza after about a month becuase he said it gave him a soar foot. I told him that i would buy it from him, as long as it was in good shape. It obviously is good from what i can tell, but the mechanic sanded it a little bit, said that is waht you do im just asking some of the local mechanics if this is somthing that is done on a reguler basis or if they are trying to cover somthing up?
thanks phil

A lot of mechs are under the impression that friction material gets 'glazed', and they have a need to sand it a bit to make it look like it did when it was new in the box. When friction material actually does glaze it will shatter like glass if dropped. I've even run into a few guys that think rotors are glazed if they have a mirror-like appearance....
It won't hurt anything as long as he didn't use a grinder and take half the life off of it. It may have had a bit of oil on it and he wanted to remove it for appearance. If you leave it for a few days and then find what appears to be oil floating to the top, that's another story...
