Check Engine Light "ON"
Ok - so now that I've had the car since 1998, I have my first "check engine" warning light come on while travelling to work.....
The car is NZ new (not JDM) - with 143,000kms. So where can I find diagnostics information for OBD1 type car (built 12/94 - on drivers door side plate). Trevor, I know that you have a set of manuals for cars "down under" - just wondering if the "how to get into diagnostics mode" is different from USA (rest of world) as NZ/Aust had full time AWD & variable front/back drive splits etc. thanks Stephen (1 OF 1) |

Re: Check Engine Light "ON"
Hi Stephen,
I used the US spec procedure to get into my AU spec 95 without any issues. As far as I know, it's exactly the same procedure. M |

Re: Check Engine Light "ON"
Any reason why the differences are secret?
I'm confused...I used the advice on this forum and it worked for me. Are you able to share this information as presumeably, for those of us with AU/NZ models, it's pretty critical information. |

The differences being referred to, involved year and model and applicable code read out system. It is now confirmed that Surtees car is as per 1992 Subaru Manuals.

Re: Check Engine Light "ON"
The only difference would be 96 and up being OBDII systems in which case the kick panel diagnostic is not there
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe they put OBDII systems into all of the SVXi in 96 and 97 produced worldwide. |

Re: Check Engine Light "ON"
That is right - mine has the kick panel diagnostics available - hence found out that error code = 21.
So car is heading in for a full service this weekend - it has only done 8000km in 3 years!! |

It's interesting if the Australia models use OBD 11. To the best of my knowledge UK cars of the post 96 variety use some European protocol, which is not the same as OBD 11 Joe

Sorry if that doesn't make sense. Thanks for clearing that up though, Joe Maybe we should have members in different markets check their 96+ production modeled SVX. |

Re: Check Engine Light "ON"
Hey, I got them to change it for me when I had the gearbox rebuilt I think it was like $60.
I'm not 100% sure because I didn't fit it but can anyone confirm if you need to take the valve body off to fit it? Because that's where the real cost will be revealed. |
