Unhappy MAACO paint result

Well, the MAACO price and a discussion with the store manager got me in for a repaint of our "95" Polo green (I think that's what is anyway). Picked it up after 4 days & initial impressions were quite good. Decent and consistent paint coverage, very nice initial appearance. There was some checking on the hood that they will fix after the paint has cured. Then I got home and looked it over completely. They sanded a small section of the rear lens, oversprayed the other side lens, painted the exhaust tips, bled paint on my BBS gold wheels, and missed 2 small spots lower rear of car. They will get to fix all that soon and the manager was very aplogetic. But the old addage "you get what you pay for" certainly holds true with this particular job. May be feeling better when they correct everything but disappointed with the carelessness. Maybe 10 to 15 minutes of attention would have prevented most of these issues!

I'll see if I can get a few pic's & info to share. The photo's will look very good unless you pick out the few square inches (& hood with checking). Biggest complaint again, it would have just taken minutes to do a better mask-off and sand with more caution. I'll let the photo's talk to the overall appearance.

You get what you pay for is quite true. Fortunately mine was almost free, so Maaco is ok with me

Personal experience from Wal-mart. Had a set of new set of eagle alloys and tires put on at their "tire center" 7" rim front and 8 1/2 rim rear with a 235/60-15 and 295/50-15 for my 95 s10. If you know anything about tires and rims the 295 series will not fit on the 7incher or so I thought. Go pick up my truck-right after they closed their tire dept. and didnt notice the 7inch rim on the rear with the 8 inch rim on the front. DID notice the next day the warped rims with about 2lbs of balance weights on the inside and the nice gouge which had cut the tire. Needless to say it was "my fault" for not going into detail about what tires went with what rim. First they refused to fix and buy me 2 rims and tires but threatened with a lawyer and 3 weeks later had new items. Of course damaged rims and tires resulted in SEVERAL burnouts AVOID WAL-MART FOR ANY CAR REPAIR

I just had the oil changed in my blazer at the wal-mart. First, I had to show them where the oil filter was - it's a remote setup behind the driver side headlight. Then they overfilled it by about 3 quarts. 'The manager said that it wouldn't hurt it.' I said that 'I know, because you're going to take it out.'

One of the guys that I work with took his car there and they drained the fluid and replaced the filter but never added any oil. He took it back and the guy that worked on it remembered that he forgot to add the oil. He's suing for a new engine.

I don't believe that I'll be returning to the mart for any vehicle work.

i would paint my car with a roller and a brush before i'd take it to Maaco.

i took my winter beater car to Firestone one time (big mistake) to get the fuel filter replaced. i went to pick it up, looked under the car, and the old rusty fuel filter was still there.

me: "so, did you change the fuel filter?"
mouthbreather: "yessir!"
me: "are you sure?"
mouthbreather:
me: "oh, i thought you were just going to charge me for leaving my car in your parking lot for 2 hours. do you want to charge me for a new transmission while you're at it?"

I've seen some maaco jobs that were not bad, and i've seen some ones that were misserable. Personally if i had to take my car to maaco, it'd be going on 4 beater tires, have headlight and tail light assembly's removed, be pre-sanded, and pre-taped. Over-all their paint isn't that bad, but the lack of attention to the smaller details is where people really get their cars messed up. Eliminate the chance for that to happen, and it has a decent chance at coming out right.

96 red went to Maaco

My 96 Brilliant Red, thats what it should be, was painted at Maaco in 2005 right before I bought it. I guess Maaco was too lazy to look up the right paint code 559 Brilliant Red, so it appears they just guessed. Its a shade darker than the original Brilliant Red. I realized it when I bought some touch up using the correct paint code number. Overall the quality of the paint is a 7 out of 10 at best. Hood has the orange peel look deep down. No dings were removed, and they did minimal masking if any. Every rubber molding is painted, the sunroof, wheel well moldings, overspray on two wheels, muffler, tow hooks painted as well. ac condenser is totally red too. My next repaint will be done the right way. Paint on front bumper is already cracking and chipping off.

Maaco = BAD

The low quality paint they use will fade and dull within two years. Couple that with the poor prep work and you will have a flaking, chalky car...

The subaru paint code for the Pearl White (White Mica) is 267. It is a tri-coat paint (base coat, pearl mid-coat, and clear topcoat)

There is no paint code for Black Onyx. It is just a generic solid black.

The only blacks which have a paint code are the Ebony Pearls (with either green or red flecks in them)

is there any colour black you suggest that looks good on a pearly? or just go for the solid black respray.. I was going to get the black done first, since it will be cheaper and the paint is more faded, and then do the pearl when i have more cash

Solid black all the way. The two-tone was intended to create the illusion of a glass roof, and make the car appear lower and wider from behind. I think changing the color would ruin the effect a little

..and since Im too lazey to post in the other thread...An H-6 badge in the grill would probably look pretty good. I think though, your idea for the tail bar would work just as well INSIDE the waterfall
