Angry Suicidal SVX

Hey everyone! I hope all is well. I havent been around for a while since I got a new Acura RSX Type S, but I have been driving the SVX as my snow ride...well, until the other day.

I was driving along normally on a residential street at about 35mph and everything was normal. Without warning, my car stalled. I shifted into neutral and tried to restart without luck, so i coasted safely to the side of the road. When i tried to restart, there is no crank at all, but all of the warning lights flash and the chime rings (i dont know if its just me, but the beep pattern sounds different)

So, I have a car that stalled, won't crank, and won't start. When I tried to pop the hood, nothing happened. I think the old girl just wants to die and be left alone!! haha.

I had the car flatbedded home and finally got the hood to open. I tested the battery, fuses, and some other things which all look good. The timing belt has less than 20K on it.
Any ideas what else i could check before spending lots of cash on the dealer??
Thanks,
Nick

Hello, and welcome to the network. Glad to see another member from Pittsburgh. Where are you located?

My first guess would be the timing belt even if it is that new. I couldnt think it could be much of anything else, but I'm no Master Tech!!

It should still crank even if the timing belt broke, just not start.
I'd check the starter first, as that is probably the easiest to check, but it shouldn't have caused it to die while running, worst case would br that the motor siezed, but that is unlikely, unless it has been beat on regularly, so most likely it's something electrical, but I have NO ideal on what, maybe just a loss connection somewhere.

I guess I'm not helping matters much, maybe somebody else has some suggestions.

Ground cable

Just a shot in the dark, but would a broken ground cable do that?

Just my 3 cents.

How did you test the battery? I'm thinking maybe a shorted cell in the battery. Clues to me are: 1. Engine died, 2. Lights buzzers and bells work but the tone sounds different, 3. engine won't crank.

Here in Florida I've had two batteries go this way and it causes some strange things to occur.

That is my optomistic and inexpensive guess.

Last shorted cell I had, not only would my car not start but my electric razor wouldn't work either. Coinsidence?...I THINK NOT!

Randy ii,

I notice that you are calling your 79 Spider "Project Bernie"

Here is my "Project Yussel":
A 1/2 lb. of lean Romanian hot Pastrami, + a 1/2 lb. of white meat turkey, 2 strips of maple sugar cured bacon, 2 thick slices of kimmel rye bread lightly toasted, 2 slices of beefsteak tomato, 2 slices of purple onion, 3 Romaine lettuce leaves, and a dollop of Gray Poupon mustard. Now put it all together and make one sandwich. Then sit down in front of the TV and watch a good football game.
Don't forget the eggcream.

ENJOY !!

John Hoffman (SVXCESS) thinks these kind of sandwiches deserve their on zip code.

make sure you both clean and inspect the battery terminals. The symptoms you speak of sound exactly like a weak battery or bad park neutral switch for the restart problem.

i had that kinda of thing happen to me, just i got her to restart with a bit of a struggle. it was a dead cell in the battery. go buy a battery from sears and install it, if that isn't the problem, they have a return policy, but then you can really test your theory!
hello and welcome to the network, BTW, ever hear about a town in PA named Reading????

I am a pessimistic optimistic. I think the worst is going to happen, that way when it does, i don't feel as bad, but if the best happens, i am twice as happy.
