Okay, then. I should probably test the auto-censoring feature of the board. What follows is a list of the most foul, profane things I can think of. That way, we can see which words make it through and which do not.

Juicy parts from a B4 conversation on our Legacy forum - Paul Hansen is our inside scoop in Japan.

from C&D There will be a B4 headed to the States, according to "sources inside Subaru," possibly in 2004 as a 2005 model, for about $30K.

Apparently, however, rather than the TT B4, we'll be getting a second-generation model currently being tested at Subaru's grounds near Tokyo. This version will get face lift(mild?), and further:

Instead of the TT 2.0l 4-cylinder, the U.S.-spec B4 will get the 2.5-liter turbo motor, making 260-270 hp (10 hp down on the current B4), but with scads more low-end torque.

In the same article, a "senior Subaru official" said that the 3-liter flat six might also be in the pipeline for future Legacies, and might even get a turbo. We'll get two tranny options: five speed proper, or five-speed autobox with manumatic, along with bigger brakes, and all that jazz.

C&D has a better source than Autoweek. One that actually talks with Subaru and STi.

I would personally call it more than a mild facelift, but the repor..er, source is notorious for skipping the technical details a smidgen.

Of course the engine would be intercooled. The spy shots, I mean, unconfirmed sources of the new Legacy show the hood scoop in it's usual location. There is a good chance it would actually be tuned so as it's making more torque than hp.

The main reason the 2.5-litre will "only" (cough, cough) make 260-270hp is so that it doesn't compete with the STi impreza, at least on paper. In Japan, where you could buy a 276hp B4 Legacy for some 4-5000thou less than an STi that (on paper) made only 276hp, the B4 stole far too many sales away from the STi.

Lessor reasons would be ease of tuneability for overseas markets with their differing levels of gas quality.

Of course, I really must add in that the 2.5-litre turbo is not confirmed at this point. I believe that is what they will end up with initially. with different engines available farther into the new Legacies life cycle.

It looks more and more like something similar to the WRX facelift. This may be hard to believe, but that design may have been picked out for the Legacy before the WRX, with the WRX coming out first due to issues with sales.

The Legacy B4 is indeed more effective at getting in air at high speeds. Against a friend in a modified STi V. 4 that pulls harder than the new (but not newest) STi, my car actually pulls ahead from 3rd gear on (at, erhm, higher speeds). That's with much taller gearing too. That's one of the issues that was addressed with the WRX facelift, with the nose being a bit shorter, and the hoodscoop designed to actually get air into it at high speeds.

In another thread, Paul notes that the badging of "B4" will probably not leave Japan and the Legacy Turbo will be under some other badging here in the US .

Damit. Now there gona skrew up the Legacys looks before they send it over here with a turbo. Like they did with the Imprezza/WRX, no matter how much i try to like them, the headlites just screw it all up, I love to have a nice 99 B4 Blitzen.
