Is there any truth to the wheel bearing failure relating to the wheel offset?

Yes, wheel offset along with other factors involving the suspension geometry and overall weight of the vehicle are factors in wheel bearing failure.

The reviews are a bit of a laugh, but there is solid truth in both of them on some points.

But Mustangs and suicidal Italians takes the biscuit!!!

People have funny views on things, and I suppose in a free world, they are entitled to them.

Personally I think the SVX is unique. It was even more unique back in 1991. Very few cars back then came in all wheel drive all wheel traction. Comparing it to other vehicles becomes a chalk and cheese thing.

The only fair cars to compare it to are full four-seater coupes, with luggage space to qualify as a Gran Turismo, a performance engine and fulltime four wheel drive. None exist, other than the SVX.

Let's face it, there STILL is no comparable car in that bracket. When Audi introduce their new A5 [think A6 coupe] :
http://www.worldcarfans.com/spyphoto...-audi-a5-coupe
with quattro drivetrain and a fast engine, then that car will be the first real competitor. 16 years later. Not bad going Subaru.

I think the 3000GT VR-4 is in the same category (more power, more weight, and more expensive) as well as the 850 CSI (more power, more weight, not AWD, much more expensive) both qualify as comparable styles of car.

I think both the 911 and the mustang are very poor comparisons.

I don't disagree Greg, but it depends how loosely you define the category.

The VR4 is more sporty, and close, but is not a full 4 big people car, it's more of a 2+2. It also does not have the pretty sporty, but wonderfully smooth ride of the SVX.

The 840i and 850i are right up there, in performance, in people carrying, and in making the grade as a Gran Turismo. Closest of the bunch, I reckon, but although the ride is good, it does not have 4wd and as you say is thousands more expensive.

The Jaguar XJ-S would also come close, like the Beemer. No 4wd either.

I stick to my guns. Till this Audi A5 hits the road, the SVX is the grandaddy of the 4wd 4 adult people carrying GT coupes.

Joe

[Almost forgot the Ferrari 456GT or GTA, but of course it's rear drive as well]

No Phil

This is splitting hairs on definitives!!

And, I hold my hands up. Phil is absolutely correct. I had forgotten about the Ferguson Formula Interceptor, it must be the great-grandaddy of big 4wd coupes. {But you could probably buy 3 SVXs new for the price of one FF }

And while we are in the mists of history, we should not forget the Gordon Keeble. This is also a fine big coupe, and was designed by our man Giorgetto Giugiaro, of all people!!

Joe
