Alternator

should a 95' svx with 72000 miles have to replace the alternator, I guess my question is...the people with 95',96', 97 svx's, have most of them had to replace their alternators? Alan

If you're not running any extra accessories the alternator should be fine. Those running big stereos can expect to have trouble. This is regardless of the year.

Alternator

Hi

There can be a reason to an alternator brake down.

If the earth cable has a bad connection at the battery or on the engine/alternator it make a drop in voltage the regulator in the alternator register. That result is the alternator tries to compensate for the loss in voltage and increase the charging. It occour increased heat produced in the alternator.
The result can be broken diod bridge or alternator.

The alternator looked fresh out of the box when I bought my car at 104,000+ miles.
