So its begun...

I finally made room for the svx in the garage and decided to start pulling it apart for the tranny swap. ( still looking for all the parts though ...)My question was this, no matter what gear the vehicle is in it moves forward or backward without any hesitation or noise. Just like its in neutral...Could this be a faulty torque converter??Cause it was a source of extreme difficutly with the engine replacement...I still am going to swap it over to manual cause i can but if i can fix it for now that would be cool too.. Any info would be greatly appreciated...Also any leads on the parts needed would be greatly appreciated as well..

Where are you in Florida?

http://www.car-part.com/ shows a 92 SVX transaxle with 76K miles on it for $1000 even in Tampa at

http://www.japeurousedparts.com/

sorry, can't help with the gear thing except maybe a dumb idea. Is the gear selection lever moving on the side of the transmission when you moved the lever (or does the dash indicator change - not the one next to the handle). I'm wondering if the pin came loose or the cable broke, or...

edit: didn't look close enough - you wanted 5-sp parts. car-part.com also reports various Subie manuals, for example

http://www.mintonsautoparts.com/ has an Imprezza 5 Spd AWD transaxle for $497. You would have to call them for the various other parts.

try car-part, I think you'll like it. If I remember correctly, Todd (wawazat) turned on to to the site.
