I've got the POWER

This is so cool, he he.
Today, to get to night class, I was coming up to a freeway. As I turned to the entrance, and started to accelerate, i suddenly encountered a Honda prelude right in front of me, going about 35-40 mph.
He continued to drivel like that even when he entered the freeway (why people even go on the freeway if they can't go fast).
I got tired of that very quickly, and so, as soon as I found a lane right next to me, I pressed the pedal to the metal: the POWER light came on, I felt a decent push in the back, and in the matter of seconds i was traveling at 90 mph, passing the Honda with a big smile on my face.
Yeah that was cool!!!! (it was not my first time doing that)

But yeah, what is the deal with POWER light. I know when it comes on, it enters some different tranny mode, is it? or there is something else to it?

thanks

nik

Changes the shift point from 3250 to 4500 rpm, or something like that.

You may hear rumors that it magically adds 30 HP, but they aren't true. Just lets the engine rev higher before the shift.

Actually, it does two things...

Allows the engine to rev all the way to redline on every shift as long as your foot is down....

And it slips the torque converter just like you would do when launching a manual car at full tilt... by doing this it gets about ~20% more effective torque to the ground and gives you that nice push.

Sure, just wire up a bulb. There are a few empty spaces there for other lights... why not hook up a "NAWZ POWR" light?

That'd be great! hehe. If I ever get NAWZ I'm doing it.

I was just discussing NOS with my buddy at work that owns a WRX. I was explaining the POWER mode to him when the thought occured to wire up a NOS system so it activated when the car went into POWER mode. In addition to a master switch to completely turn off the NOS so it does not come on when you don't want it, wire it into the dash light so when the POWER mode dash light comes on the nitrous is activated. That way you do not need a seperate switch to fire it up and you get the POWER light for the NOS you wanted while retaining a completely stock appearance.

Anyone know why this would not work? Has anyone done it??

If you keep your foot in the radiator in Power mode--it doesn't shift into 4th until just under 130 mph.

that is nice

Thanks for explanation guys. I like the 20% power one. Does that actually mean that you are getting 20% more torque, pushing more out of your 230HP, or just 20% more to get to existing torque and HP?

Ok, here is another question. How come when you are doing 0-60, the POWER light does not come on all the time. Does it requare sertain RPM?

Nitrous? Sounds tempting. But you might blow up your engine that way, since your RPM already close to redline, Nitrous will just push it pass that line. Don't you think?

I don't think it goes beyond 230hp.

Ack. Dude. Learn to read. He said the additional power myth is a MYTH. We have 230hp engines. That's all SVXs ever had, ever. Powermode just changes the shifting points. THATS IT.

- Rob

PS: Nitrous will not blow up your engine if used properly.

Nope, the computer only reacts to how FAST you press on the accelerator. Just push it to the floor and it will likely down shift 1 gear. Stomp on it and it will down shift 2 or 3 gears and go to 6k RPM shift points .

That's basically how mine works. It will only engage when the TPS senses WOT. But the only difference is, the nitrous engagement doesn't care how fast the pedal went down. But it is in POWER mode almost every time I gas.

Dude, I know how to read, (in 3 languages by the way), no need to be going crazy here.
Sorry, but you probably did no read my question correctly. I was asking whether or not the torque changes due to existig 230hp (227 lb of torque) to a higher value, or the existing value kicks in earlier then suppose to.
