SVX steering column replacement compatibility/Momo airbag wiring issue
Hello. I have two questions to pose to the community:
First, I'm looking for a replacement steering column for my '97 SVX LSi. I damaged it by being an idiot instead of just buying the right tool to remove the steering wheel. I've attempted to repair the threads on the shaft but had no success. I understand that different models of SVX had different assist types in the power steering. According to cars101.com, the '97 LSi has electronic vehicle-speed sensing variable power assist. Every top of the line SVX going back to '92 says the same. Can anyone confirm that this is the same system and that I would be ok with a column from a '92 so long as it had electronic vehicle-speed sensing variable power assist? Secon, I have purchased a JDM V4 Legacy Momo steering wheel, and I need to which wires from the SVX airbag connector go to which wires on the Momo airbag. There are two wires that are both tan on each connector. Anyone have experience with this? Thanks. I need to snap some pictures of the airbags, which I'll try to do tonight. |

Re: SVX steering column replacement compatibility/Momo airbag wiring issue
i believe that all of the systems used the same column and the difference was in the rack itself. it may be easier to pay an auto shop to repair the threads than replace the column.

Re: SVX steering column replacement compatibility/Momo airbag wiring issue
I'm looking at used columns on eBay, and they run about $150. I guess a shop could charge less, but getting the column there would involve removing it. However, replacing it would also involve removing it.

Re: SVX steering column replacement compatibility/Momo airbag wiring issue
I found an automotive machine shop in Greeley that does re-threading work. I'll see how that goes, as it appears to be the cheapest option. They also do full engine rebuilds and race engines, so perhaps if I like their service, I may be back some day...
