Re: heat shields Question

I wouldn't, just because the smell would be appalling after a short while.

I just recently took all of mine off. It's quieter than ever

Re: heat shields Question

dynomat would be a terrible idea, its not meant to handle the heat, heat wrapping would be a much better idea.

Re: heat shields Question

Am I the only one who thinks that Subaru engineers put them there for a purpose? I just tweeked the shields and checked the connectors. Rust wasn't an issue. If you take them off, buy a fire extinguisher.

Re: heat shields Question

Yea! If you drive a lot off road and through dry leaves or park on dry grass... I took mine off in 2000 and never had a problem.

The purpose they serve is to keep your catalytic converters from igniting dry grass & brush and starting a fire. Having them in very dry areas serve a great purpose, not so much when you live in the super wet pacific northwest like I do.

Or if you just don't drive/park over dry grass ever.

Re: heat shields Question

I am thinking of putting exhaust wrap on pipes then the heat shields.
I am getting a lot of tinning of the shield when my car cools down.
only on one side I think of have a bad pre-cat.
