Leak near Trunk area
Hello all,
I finally sealed the deal on that '92 SVX, Pearl White. The PO stated that there was a drain hole where the rear window meets the trunk area. He said that maybe the mechanic pulled off some body piece and then plugged the drain hole. (PO stated that there was water in trunk and rear floor... probably why the ABS light is on all the time). Does anyone know how I can get to this hole? What the hole is for? Is there really a drain hole there? Any experience or knowledge on this subject would be greatly appreciated. I'm an EA81 and EA82 guy. But have now graduated to the SVX. Wish me luck... please! Thanks in advance. Ron. PS: Yes... it rains in Oregon. More on that later... |

Re: Leak near Trunk area
Leaks in the trunk usually indicate rear tail light seals that leak. Yes, that will do it. Search that and there are several threads on it. Good luck.

Re: Leak near Trunk area
As ensteel said the rear tail lights often let in water. This usually happens when they are removed and over torqued when replaced thus flattening and distorting the gaskets. New gaskets are available from Subaru, or you can use sealant.
If there is water on the rear floor I'd doubt that it is the tail light. Most of that water would end up in the wheel well for the spare. SO the plugged drain sounds more like it. If memory serves correct it's the drain from the sunroof of which there are 4.

Re: Leak near Trunk area
The rear sunroof drain and the power antenna drain tubes come together into one grommet, inside the side panel on the passenger side, towards the rear. They then drain to the outside. Check to see if both hoses are connected.
If you can log onto subaruparts.com, go to http://www.subaruparts.com/diag/?mod...category=863-A Or else, search "drain" and click on "antenna". Part no. 9 There are plugs that are in the bottom of the spare tire well that are not designed as drains. You can remove one but that only addresses the water there, not on your floor. We need to find the cause, not address the symptoms. Usually faulty tail light gaskets will give you lots of fogging and condensation in the lenses. .
