Re: Thoughts about 4.44 or 4.11 anyone?
The number by the starter is TZ102ZAAAA-C7. I couldn't find a list in the 4.11/4.44 thread, so i'm going to call the guy I got the transmission from for the VIN. Then the mystery will be solved!

Re: Thoughts about 4.44 or 4.11 anyone?
Alright, so after searching around, here's what I found. The transmission came from a 2.2 95 Legacy, and the transmission number ends in AAA, and the rear diff's ring gear has 37 teeth,so... I'm 95% it's a 4.11. I was hoping for the 4.44 but either way, I will actually be able to drive my car after owning if for a year and a half...
Alright, now onto the swap. I have a few questions. 1: I'm not sure if the torque converter from the SVX that I put in the Legacy transmission is seating correctly. It feels right, but the front face of the mounting flange is about 3/4" from the face of the bell housing, and according to OT's write-up,'when it is fully seated, the face of the mounting flanges are within 3/8" of an inch of the front of the bellhousing'. So here's my question: By face, does he mean back face of front face? Because if he means back face, its cool. If he means front face, something's wrong. (I know I ask a lot of questions, but i'm trying to avoid taking the transmission back out...) 2: Is the speed sensor the plug on the passenger side of the transmission? And again, I really appreciate all the help

Re: Thoughts about 4.44 or 4.11 anyone?
DO NOT force the transmission up to the motor!!!
You don't have the TC seated all the way in the tranny!!! It needs to be seated all the way or you will bust the pump in the tranny when you bolt it to the motor! The TC should almost be touching the transmission (toward the rear of the car) and the TC should spin freely when the transmission is completely bolted up to the motor, THEN you turn the TC to line it up with the flexplate holes.

I took the torque converter from the SVX along with that pipe held on by the snap ring, then put it in the legacy transmission. I turned the TC until it seemed to set in the notches (I can feel it moving gears inside the transmission when I turn it now). But the face of the mounting flanges is more that 3/8" away from the bellhousing.

It will go to almost flush with the bell housing...it can be really tricky getting it to seat all the way, keep turning it while pushing it in, switch directions once in a while, and it'll eventually go in.

Re: Thoughts about 4.44 or 4.11 anyone?
Alright, I also wanted to confirm that this is the speed sensor:
And I've been reading a few threads and it seems that people don't feel that the 4.11 is very reliable. Different people think that the clutch packs are too weak, others feel that an external cooler is needed. So I guess I want to see what I should do in order to make this tranny last as long as it can (hopefully 3+ years).

YES that is your speed sensor. And about the diff thing: OK, so I have a stock SVX diff which is a R160, a R180 (basically the same as the R160 and came from my 240Z), but is nothing like the R200 (from my 280ZXT). I have destroyed several R180's in my 240Z and one R200. I think your friends rear diff would only be a R200 LSD if you noticed something externally different about it, and would have the finned Al back plate. 4X? Not really. Maybe your friend had something other than stock, or something like the LSD diff from a Z31 or early 90's Infinity RWD. In which case it could ONLY be a R200LSD. If I am wrong, then I would gladly seek correction. MKIV+ supra rear diff anyone?

Re: Thoughts about 4.44 or 4.11 anyone?
All the 90's 4EAT's were basically the same transmission, just different final drive ratios, and the lower ratio's are less stressfull to the tranny...so the 4.44's put the least strain on the tranny (but rev the motor more) so the 4.11's will put less strain on the tranny than the stock 3.54's.
And yes a tranny cooler is a good ideal on ANY Subaru 4EAT

Re: Thoughts about 4.44 or 4.11 anyone?
Cool, well I guess I'll just get a tranny cooler and hope for the best. Thanks again
