Re: How To: Clean and Restore Headlights and Grill

Looks great!!! but your headlights were not even yellow to begin with, just hazy. I'm going to try this on my yellow ones but I don't anticipate the same results. Thanks for the info

Re: How To: Clean and Restore Headlights and Grill

Here's a question. I have one light that gets some moisture in it once in a while. Would placing it in the oven without pulling it apart reseal it?

Re: How To: Clean and Restore Headlights and Grill

I did this to the set on my car as well. They were extremely yellow and it removed it. Depending on how deep into the plastic the uv damage is, more or less sanding will be needed.

I am not sure. You can get more of the sealing material from an auto parts store if you wanted to. BUT, our headlights are not sealed. They have two little breather tubes on the back pointing down.

Re: How To: Clean and Restore Headlights and Grill

For moisture inside the light - heating it in the oven with the bulbs removed might dry the inside out

As for polishing, Meguiar's has a clear plastic cleaner in addition to the clear plastic polish, I use the two of them together at work to polish headlights, and I rarely need to sand them unless they are deeply pitted or if they are excessively cloudy. I also have a 3" air polisher, it was $150 from Cornwell Tools, works great for polishing headlights.

Here is the section on Meguiar's website:

I noticed the breather tubes but I figured I have a leak somewhere in the seal between the two halves. When I cleared the snow off the other day one light had condensation inside of it and the other didn't. The snow had been sitting on the car for a couple of days with both lights being covered.

Re: How To: Clean and Restore Headlights and Grill

I tried that blue magic stuff and it actually works i'll try and post the pics when i get em off my phone. Blue magic helps speed things up but i still recommend 2000 or 2500 grit and wax/polish

Re: How To: Clean and Restore Headlights and Grill

the MSDS reveals
kerosene
aluminum oxide
Oxirane, methyl-, polymer
Ammonium hydroxide
Smectite clay

IIRC, the bottle does mention sanding
