He also designed quite a few other tin boxes. For instance, he designed the first Fiat Panda. I won't be expecting queues of people jumping up to defend that one because it's a Giugiaro design. An ugly box is an ugly box. Joe

oh, I'm not offended, I like the car, but, I don't own one or anything, and I would certainly never begrudge you your opinion, mostly was pointing out the weight issue, because I find that many people think that the car is is actually a stainless steel body.

Understood.
They were made in Ireland, so I probably should be defending them from a jingoistic standpoint. I like or at least tolerate weight in a roadgoing car, from the comfort and strength standpoint. My point about the DeLorean being too heavy is really in relation to the puny power they gave it. It ran with a Douvrain V6 and Renault gearbox and drive train. It never had a chance of being quick or sportcar-like with that drivetrain and the weight it carried. They are certainly very interesting cars, and if a more powerful engine was an option, I would find them more attractive. Joe

LS1 ?
I like it. Sounds like the way to go. If you opened up the gullwing doors, I figure you could cut corn with that thing, with an LS1 in the back....

Scissor doors - BAH
I'm sorry, after bunging my head on the doors on an original Countach, and seeing row upon row of cars at SEMA with awkward, expensive doors that let in water when you're trying to get in in the rain, I have no use for oddball opening doors.
This goes for "gullwing"doors too. They really look cool, but getting and out of a 300SL coupe is a real pain, and becomes more so as you get older. I drove one again last fall, and re-confirmed all that. Now on the other hand, rear-hinged "suicide" doors make it easier to get in and out of a car, so I'm all for them. And with the decent latches and rigid body structure of today's cars, they're as safe as front hinged doors. The name, by the way, comes from the fact that the flexible flyer structure of the early cars that had rear hinged doors would allow them to pop open at speed on rough roads, and if you reached for the handle to close them, the air flow would pull you out of the car as the door flew open. But it sure makes it easy to get in and out.

I actually think they look great, and really compliment the exotic, concept-car style of the SVX. I personally couldn't care less if ricers also want them for their lowered CRXs with Folgers coffee exhausts and blue neon underlights. Just because idiots with Hondas like them doesn't make them bad.
Hell, half of the visual mods I've seen people do to an SVX are ten times as ricey as lambo doors. At least these look really good.

I also love the look of the lambo doors, but I love the butterfly ones more.
One of the worst SVXs I've seen (and i know you have too) is the one with the gas tanks on the sides of the rear windows.

Ok ladies, lets not confuse bling with function. The car your speaking of is a sand runner in the aussie desert. Its apples and oranges.

That may be what the car is used for, but why is there the need to use a sports car for running around in the desert. That's what the WRXs are for, they get you more clearance, and gas mileage

WRXs are "sports cars", SVXi are not. The clearances are not much different. Mileage is not much different, though I don't recall the EPA estimate for sand dunes in 100+F weather. I for one will never buy a WRX because I hate the interior, and look at what I drive now. If I suddenly lived in the desert and had to choose either WRX or SVX, guess what I would choose.
