spark plug removal

Hi all, I am attempting to change my plugs and ran into a problem the how to doesn't elaborate on enough so here I am. I removed air cleaner and battery for clearance. I got the first plug out and removed the rubber boot from one end. Now what? Everything seems solidly together. Do I have to remove the yellowish cover to get at plug. Before I tear anything up I wanted more clearer instructions. Please respond. Thanks in advance.

Mike

Remove the coil pack - that is the large black thing with the wire connected to it. There should be a black rubber boot on one end of the coil pack - the end that goes over the spark plug. It is a part of the coil pack and shouldn't be attached to the spark plug. If it is you're in trouble.

Remove spark plug.
Put in new spark plug.
Put coil pack back on.

Maybe you can take a picture of the yellow thing you refer to? There shouldn't be any yellow thing in there.

I have a spare engine in the garage I can take pictures of the coil pack and plug if you need it.

plugs

Thanks for the quick response. I unthreaded the bolt most of the way out and could not remove the coil pack that way. To tight. No room to get a screw driver to pry it out. I think after ten years it just won't budge. I'll go try again but not very optomistic.

Any photos?

If you have any photos showing what exactly has to come apart that would be helpful. I can't even tell when I have it out what has to be separated. Where the two wires connect theres like a cover for the pack. Somewhat translucent with a yellowish to green color. Thanks.

Plugs

Thanks again I got it now. I didn't know the plug was way inside the hole. I actually had that thought and put my finger in there and shown my flashlight but from the angle didn't see anything. The coil is big enough to have a plug in there. I got a dress rehearsal for how to finish it now One hard way to learn I'll post again when the job is done

Good luck on changing the #6 spark plug. Just don't pull on the coil pack too hard when getting it out of the way, or it'll need to be replaced!

I'm waiting for Tom to chime in here about his record setting time in replacing all 6 plugs (okay, so the engine wasn't in the car at the time )
