intake and throttle body cleaning?

i would like to take off my intake manifold to do some extensive cleaning. roughly how long should this process take? would i need new gaskets, and or any other lil things i should upgrade? any recomendations on cleaning inside the intake manifold and throttle body? special chemicals? do i pose a threat to never having my car run properly again?

As a warning this is a pain in the ass the first time you do it. It takes time.

Use valvoline synthetic throttle body cleaner spray. It is the best.

I would have new intake manifold gaskets ready - the metal linings like to pop out of the old ones. You can reuse them if you are careful but it would be better to change them.

Have some 1/8th" rubber vacuum hose ready. You can get this in bulk sections in most auto parts stores. You will find many of the vacuum hoses very brittle underneath the intake.

Be very careful when pulling off the vacuum hoses - the plastic connections are also usually very brittle.

This is a great time to change the PCV valve.

I was also impressed with the results when I used Mercury Powertune to clean my throttlebody.

to clean throttle body use; Mercury Powertune or valvoline synthetic throttle body cleaner spray. mebbie ill get both. lol. was gonna use old carbeutor spray for my old sold 69 mustang. thats why i left a message.

i saw a lil bit of oil inside my throttle body. what causes it????

woah now settle down... oil in the intake is caused by systems that recirculate air back into the intake tract. not a big deal. the PCV valve is a typical cause of this. its pretty normal, and one of the reasons why you should clean all that up every once in a while.

Yeah the PCV valve is the culprit usually.

Get them both and try one on each side of the intake. Let us know which works better.
