From the members of the Toronto Subaru Club (there are only 250 or so members), I have already heard of SEVERAL totalled WRXes.

Those aren't good odds at all... I doubt it's the car, I would question the driver skills usually. I mean, how could it be the car? Shouldn't you know how your own car behaves?

Problem is, unfortunately, I see this trend to continue, and not just with the WRX. Toyota/GM with their Matrix/Vibe (180hp), Nissan with their Sentra SE-R (180hp), rumours of the Mitsubishi Lancer EVO coming, Acura Integras (200hp), the list goes on... All these cars are "affordable" to the young'uns, add lack of experience, and you have a potential disaster on hand.

(Steps off soap box, puts it in front of a WRX ready to run it over...)

Unhappy Welcome to the Australian Experience!

It seems like you guys are beginning to experience the spectre of WRX dom that has been prevalent in Australia since about 1995 when their popularity took off.

They are EVERYWHERE here.....and young guys with money coming out of their ears own the vast majority. No, not vast amounts of cash to buy them....they spend vast amounts MODIFYING!! I will scan some in and show you the nonsense that often results.

As for the front end damage, the WRX is prone to terrible understeer......people seem to think 4WD = double the amount of grip and drive at double the limit!

The next phase that you will see is the theft rate skyrocket!!!

Mark my words!!! *soothsayerish voice!*

daddy's money?

Did you guys see/hear the ad for LS300? Could be the new ES300 too but can't remember and I started cracking up as soon as i heard it.

The story goes something like this:

graduation music is played...

Dad: Time to hand over the key to my grown up daughter.
Daughter: Really dad, thanks

in the conversation, they talk about the safely of the car and what not -- as in all the bells and whistles.

Narrator: New ?S300 is affordable at 35000 USD and is great as graduation present for your daughter going off to college...

Tell me, What is a 18 year old girl going to do with a LS300 in her college parking lot? Get the damn thing stolen or sleep in the car? If someone give me a LS300, I'll take it to the dealership and sell it and keep the money.

What is the world coming to?

I think there some modified WRX's in this site...it was of the Auto Salon here on Sydney that was on Sunday:

http://www.markpakula.com/sas/

For modded WRX's, this has had crazy money thrown at it...he and his brothers all drive/own heavily modded WRXs:

And this guy, RBABY, is famous on the modified car scene here....he reckons he spent $200,000 on his Holden Barina (he likes to think it is a Suzuki Swift) - I have a video of him on a racetrack.....with wheely bars!!

As for how they afford it, wish I knew
