WRX concerns

I have seen quite a few WRX's sitting around in body shops with FRONT END DAMAGE. What's going on? Has Subaru changed its braking systems? I guess another question might be , Are these things tooo fast and uncontrollable? I drove a WRX wagon at a dealers 'tent sale'. They said they would knock over $1000 off because it had some front end damage that had been repaired by the dealer. I thought it handled well and the brakes seemed fine.
Has anyone out there noticed wrecked WRX's? or Is it that folks in Maryland just can't drive.

Anytime you get a high performance, light, nimble car, alot of very young inexperienced driver that get in over their heads, driving like on a race course, who will evenually run up on somebody "not" driving the same speed

I'm mot preaching, I was probably worse than most in my younger years, just stating why so many WRXs are getting front end damage, Its allways been the same, hard to find good front end parts to any kind of fast car at a scrap yard for these same reasons

WRX cocerns

I have also heard that Subaru has changed the metering in its Master Cylinders, and that the newer Subarus have more pedal travel before the brakes engage. I didn't notice that on the one I drove.

The WRX seems to attract more young whippersnappers (mostly males under 20). They had a special on the news here about illegal street racing and there were WRX's everywhere. I can see why they are getting into accidents. I've seen a lot of "pimped out" WRX's already.

SVX's seem to attract an older, mature crowd that isn't likely to drag race on city streets at 2am on a Saturday night. However, I must admit I do attend those events on occasion, but I have never raced my car.

Where in theeee heck are males under 20 getting their money to buy WRXes??? Along with the question, where are they getting the money to pay for the INSURANCE. Is it "daddy's money." If so, daddy needs his butt kicked! I don't begrudge a kid having a nice car if he's worked for it, pays for it and all the headaches that go with it. I wasn't jealous of my friends in high school (the '70's) who were buying brand new Muscle Cars, because I knew they were working their arses off in the tobacco and hay fields to pay for them. And I saw a great deal of difference in the way they treated their cars over those who were driving on "daddy's dime." I mean, if more and more kids are getting thirty thousand dollar cars for graduations, birthdays or whatever, there's no wonder why kids don't want to "work for a living" and consider a corporate vice presidency as an "entry level
position." Sheesh! Sorry >rant mode off<

You'd be surprised

You'd be surprised what some of these jobs pay that require little to no skills. My friend with a WRX has a $400 a day job for creating spreadsheets about some cables. A bunch of my friends are telemarketers, and with their comission they can buy just about anything they want. Also, they finance everything. It's really not hard to pay $250/month for a WRX when you get $15 an hour for 30 hours a week, you only have 12 hours of class, you're only paying 200 for rent and so on. It's just a matter of priorities. I could easily afford to finance a WRX without daddy's money, but I have abour $20K going to school every year...$7,500 in shcolarships each year and the rest is split roughly 50/50 between me and my parents. Tuition here at UNM is only about $7K a year. So, you can see how this stuff becomes affordable when you have a good job, cheap rent, and in-state tuition (not to mention the people who don't even have tuition to worry about). I think many are probably using daddy, but I know there are those out there who are fortunate enough to have a high paying job that doesn't require much. I'm, personally, not keen on the idea of financing, though. I'll wait till I have ALL the money.

Amen, brother.

Lots of daddies have gotten junior killed by satisfying a craving that they don't respect, much less know how to handle.

When a friend and I were asking about a Vr4 at a car dealership once, the dealer joking asked "Hey - you gonna pay cash?" and my friend replied "If thats what you want."

The dealer stared for a second and said "What are you, drug dealers?"

"No, we're programmers."

And all was clear ... they actually believed I could give them $17k if requested... of course, that was back in the pre-dot-bomb days, when people actually believed that any seemingly techno-savy teen could be making millions from their dotcom startup... sight.. I miss those days.

I am always amazed at how much stuff people I know manage to buy, some of them without jobs even ... credit is a dangerous thing...

Angry

I would assume our beloved insurance companies take a hard look at a 227hp rocket sedan & assign a healthy premium to it from day one. I just wonder if after a year or two of paying out the nose for an overly high number of claims on said vehicle, the premium becomes a PREMIUM for the rest of us, who cry when we get a stone chip on the bumper.
Just like the credit deadbeats who screw things up interest wise for the 80% who actually pay bills on time. I have no sympathy for Visa/Mastercard who dangle instant gratification under the nose of every poverty striken college freshman, but I'll be dipped if care to get hosed as a result of their "generosity". Credit has achieved the distinction of equalling the same absurd standards as our driving tests in this country. I could go on... but I guess I already have.
Gramps.
