Question How close to the end of the production run is my SVX?

Phil has started me off on this, so if it bores everyone then blame him...

Owning a P-reg (1997) SVX I have often wondered how close to the end of the run my car is.

I have called Bell & Coleville and they said that they imported 97 and mine was number 90. But I thought there were more like 300 cars imported...

Did more than one company bring them over here?

Was the guy I spoke with at B&C wrong?

Any suggestions will be gratefully received...

He probably means they actually sold and registered 97 of the 300, which is more than likely the most of any individual dealership. As far as I'm aware International Motors are the official agent of Subaru in the UK and have been for a long time. They will have the figures for all official UK SVX's imported. I would guess there has been something like 20 grey imports, although that is pure speculation on my part.

Ooooh, now you've got me wondering now. Mine is a 'P' as well though it's of 1996 vintage. I was led to believe there had only been 220 official UK spec SVXs, can't remember where I saw that though.

Cool!

Does anyone have a contact number for International Motors? - might be worth giving them a call... then we could all find out where in the run we all are.

Phil - Strange to see you think there have only been 20 grey imports. If you have a look at the Exchange and Mart website you can often find 10-15 greys for sale just there. I had always assumed there were more greys than... non-greys on the UK roads...

I don't understand.
Are you referencing world wide production or just production for the UK?

I think it would be neat to have the last SVX.

Maybe you can get a clue from the chassis number. I think the UK models use a similar chassis number to the US models. One of the letters indicates the year and then the last 6 digits is a sequential number starting from the beginning of that year.

So presumably, if your number was .....001000 then your car would be the thousandth car made in '97. You can then check this against the production figures for each year. IIRC There's a list somewhere on this site.

Phil.
