Smile Project: Refurbishing brakes

Decided to refurbish all the brakes on my pearly. Here are some pictures with some descriptions. I will update this thread regularly. Enjoy.

Origianl mounting caliper frame. 22 years of never been cleaned.


Same mounting frame sandblasted:

Caliper pistons (Centric) were $15 a piece and I got 4 for the front; the rear were good. Piston boots and seals (Centric) were $5 a piece for the front and $3 a piece for the back. I reused the sliding guide boots since they were fine.

Did you have your own blaster? For those who dont what would a shop charge to clean all the parts you did?

I had access to an enclosed blaster. I don't know what a shop will charge; better off getting your own (tank and nozzle plus small compressor and sand); then you can take your time.

One of the break hoses broke, so I'll be doing those as well; stay tunned .
