Hard to start, sometimes...
I've searched the forum, but looking for any other possibilities as I did not come across the exact same situation in my threads.
My SVX starts and runs great, most of the time. Occasionally, when starting it, it will just turn over and not fire - right away. It will always start, but it seems to kind of catch a little and eventually fire up. Seems to be getting worse now that the cold is coming, but that could just be me. When it does start right away, it starts RIGHT AWAY. Like, as soon as I turn the key. My thoughts and also some results from my search lead me to the following possibilities: fuel pump, MAF, crank sensor, injectors, spark plugs. Anyone have any other guesses? How can I test the crank sensor? TIA

hearing that kind of make me feel guilty. Hard to start? Try checking your connection in your fuse box. Appreantly I had the same problem once in a blue moon, and a nudge in the fuse box it will solve it. I mean the fuse box by your leg. Check the connections again. I checked when it was mine and all were good then.

Lwin,
No hard feelings. When I buy a car I expect problems. So far this car has been a dream. Even my wife loves the car and that says a lot as she normally hates the obscure oddities I prefer to drive. This is a minor problem in my book. I'll check the fuses, thanks for the tip.

In my case, it does it no matter what the temperature is. It just "seems" to be getting worse in the colder weather, but that could totally be a coincidence.

Last winter when it was sort of rainy/icy and cold, my car would actually drop WAY below normal idle speed while at a stop in Drive, sputter about a bit, and unless I got it into neutral and gunned the p*ss out of the engine, it would die out. It'd always start right back up if it stalled.. but I could not for the life of me figure out what the hell was going on..
-Adam EDIT: This only happened once in awhile.. never an everyday thing.. |

Coolant temp sensor, this is my best idea. Mine was shot when i got my car, it didnt show up on the CE light but it sounds like you are having the same problem, just cheek the codes, eventualy the sensor will stop working and it takes 3 to 5 min just to get the car running good. About $22 for the sensor and a quick change.

You will also notice your radiator fans turning even though the engine is cold.

That new thread is describing my problem to a tee. It is like trying to start a car with the choke fully open. But again, this doesn't happen all the time, maybe 50% of the time or less.
