Something's bad. TC or sensors?
I seem to believe now that the TC is no longer locking up which explains my "higher than used to be RPM" situation and worse fuel economy.
Apart from the no lock situation, I sometimes have some erratic behaviour when I floor it, especially when I let go a bit on the throttle. It's not flaring, more like stuttering /quick oscillation of RPM. I've done some searching and see that the TPS comes up a lot. I occationally have a CEL coming and then immediately going. Last time i bothered to check was two times ago, only problem was a lambda. I have a '96 OBDI car. Is there any meaningful way to trouble shoot if the actual TC is the problem or if it's a bad sensor input or two? POWER light has never flashed. Where is the TPS located and how is it cleaned?

Re: Something's bad. TC or sensors?
A new throttle position sensor remedied a shift-hunting, hard-shift, AWD weirdness condition for me; I figure it's about the cheapest place to start when troubleshooting problems of that nature.
There's probably a write-up or two on cleaning and calibrating the TPS in the "how-to" documents. Simple cleaning (with an aerosol spray electronics cleaning solution) did nothing for me, but the new unit was truly like Bolt-On-New-Car. The TPS is located on the (U.S.) driver's side of the throttle body; a brownish, hockey puck-looking thing, easy to access and remove (just don't drop the tiny screws). Make match-marks to indicate the original position before removing. Good luck, dcb |

Re: Something's bad. TC or sensors?
I think I'll try the easy solution first
So basically, pop the engine cover and spray the sensor with CRC? ))
