ECU Tune idea for the next version chip...

I was driving my friend's WRX today and he has a Cobb Accessoprt which he reflashed his ECU and now has "Launch Control"... The basics are if the car is in nutral or if the speed is between 0 - 5mph then the revlimiter is restricted to 4500rpms... It makes for a VERY clean launch in the WRX... I tried it myself in the SVX lastnight and 4500rpms is almost too much... So I tried it again at about 3,800rpms and the SVX JUMPED off the line!... Would it be possible at all to encorperate a launcha control feature into the SVX ECU??

Not sure how the stock ECU handles the redline... It can be moved... But variable dependent upon inputs to an AT ECU w/ a MT trans... That may be pushing it. Also any new development might be pushing it.

Apologies for hijacking a question posed to LAN.

I think it is doable in theory.

The SVX ECU already has a different rev limit for when it is in neutral to when it is in gear. The simplest and easiest method would be to lower that limit to 3800. Whether that would give the result you want or not is hard to say.

I have some ideas on better ways it could be done, but the biggest problem is always how much code needs to refactored or relocated to make space for the addition. Patching machine code in place is a lot more tricky than building from source code.

well the ECU has two modes(P&N then there is the in-gear map). If you wired your trans in-gear switch to activate the N&P mode, it would work. BUT you couldn't shut it off w/ speed without further investigation. But this also requires him to write a chip specific to a 5mt. Being such a selective market it will prob never happen for the same reasons there is no OBDII ECUtune...

Good points Tom (and everyone else)... I guess I'll just have to train my "launch control system" (left leg) to respond the same all the time... No worries
