Timing belt, water pump

Is $530.00 a good price for having these both done?

You can buy the belt for about $80 and the pump for about $60. The rest of that price is labor. Having helped one member change both his timing belt and water pump, I know that I wouldn't pay a dealer $500+ to do it, since it isn't really that difficult. Granted, it did take us most of one afternoon and the next morning because we didn't have all the right tools to get the cam pulleys off to replace the seals. If it were just the belt and pump, it would've probably only taken a couple of hours.

cam seals

Kuoh, how did you re tighten the cam sprockets without the special tool. I am at this stage in my rebuild and any pointers/tips are appreciated.
Thanks,
Jay

Actually, we were never able to get the cam sprokets loose so we gave up on them. We even "rented" an impact wrench from Wal-Mart and borrowed an air compressor, but couldn't get the bolt to loosen.

While they have everything out, you should probably have the oil pump and cam seals done also. My oil pump is starting to leak badly at 80k! It shouldn't cost you much more. About $50 or so as opposed to the 100s it would cost in labor to have it done later.
Dave.

seals

Davie, I agree. That's why I asked the question about the cam sprockets. Because I have just done the cam, front crank, and oil pump seals in my engine. The front crank seal is in the oil pump housing. The oil pump has this little o-ring in it but the main oil pump gasket is factory specified to be made with "fluid packing" (silicone). I loosened the cam sprocket bolts by doing it before I took off the timing belt and just holding the crank from turning. However, putting them back on with locktite is turning out to be a bit harder due to a timing issue with the curing locktite. Lots of fun.
