Rear LED anyone have any advice?

See the problem is that not all the lights light up across the back of the lED,about 4 of the little dots are out, the subaru dealer said it would cost 280, is that right? is this a hard thing to fix? what could I do? thanks

Contact doug rudd (AKA doug). He is parting out a 92 and probably still has the unit. I personally have not lost any LEDs yet (knocking on wood) but I would assume it is a single assembly or requires some major surgery.

But I could be wrong...

Is the light bar a required item now? I mean I'm just asking because I haven't seen any cars in the last few years that didn't have some kind of brake light.
