Timimg Belt

Well, I just wanna add that my Timing Belt just broke. It was replaced at 60K miles and now i have about 106K miles. For some reason my mechanic says that my engine is gone now, but everybody says that timing belt cannot damage anything. So... I'm not sure why timing belt broke that early. I also talked to Subaru mechanic and he mentioned something about two bearings and tensioners. Anyone know what to check for when timing belt breaks? Let me know. Thanx.

Ilya, your engine should not be "gone" because of a timing belt break. The SVX has a Non-interference engine which means the valves can't crash into the pistons like "interference" engines, so, I'd find me another mechanic. The only bearings I think he'd be talking about would be the cam bearings, but, I would think they'd be unaffected as well. The tensioner could have some problems, but, they're normally resilient and shouldn't be a problem. Like I said -- find another mechanic.
