torque convertor/flex plate line up.

Last night Hocrest and I installed a new tranny in his Impreza only to have the torque convertor move off the line up on the flex plate. Now they both turn when the front of the engine moves. Any ideas how to get 'em lined up to bolt it down?

Stick your finger or something in through the access port on the top of the engine and hold the converter while you turn the engine to the right position and thread a bolt.

HOLD UP THERE.

the engine should be relatively hard to turn, the torque converter should turn independent with very little effort (finger pressure at the teeth where the bolt holes are located will be enough). If it doesn't then it means (with something like 90% probability) the torque converter is not fully seated in the transmission housing. If you continue to tighten down the transmission to the engine you risk ruining the transmission oil pump. I have done this (ruined a pump) and that means sourcing a new transmission or taking it all apart.

The bad news is that the engine and tranny will have to come back apart to fix.
