Newbie saying hello
Hi everyone.
I am picking up an SVX in 10 days, so i am writing to say hello. Am excited about picking up the car - a claret 92 with 129k miles. Wanted one for ages. Having had an Jag XJS, Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo and a classic Porsche 911, i am very sure the SVX will not disappoint. The car comes with a 12 month warrnty and the previous owner is an enthusiast. Can anyone suggest: 1. Is it easy to buy aftermarket alloys and what is the best size for it. Will 18'' change the character of the car? Can someone suggest an internet site in the UK that can supply new aftermarket alloys with tyres? 2. Is there a very good specialist that can service the svx near Devon? I have heard of one place in nailsea. 3. Any precautions to take so that i fully enjoy the car? 4. Using shell optimax? Does it make that much of a difference? In the 300 the difference was remarkable? Many thanks for taking the time to read/ answer this. 10 days to go!!! Regards Ian |

Hi Ian and welcome, to answer your questions,
1. The stud pattern and offset are a little unusual but wheels are available. Do a site search for details 2. Send an email or PM to Richdev65. Rich uased to run Romany Jones cafe on the 380 just outside Torquay. I haven't heard from him in quite a while, but he may still be there. I use a good independant mechanic. This is the 1st SVX he has worked on, but he is happy to follow instructions which I can get from this site. 3. Search for tranny. If not fitted, a cooler can prolong its life 4. Not available here, have heard no reports. 5. Attending the 2004 meet is compulsory www.guernsey.net/~linehan/stratford.wmv

Hi Ian, welcome to the club
Whereabouts in Devon are you from? I'm from Tedburn St. Mary, on the A30 between Exeter and Okehampton. Although we now live just outside London. We had an SVX meeting in Torquay a couple of years ago, 10 cars in total. A great time was had by all. The guy who organised it lives in Torquay and presumably get's his car serviced nearby. I wouldn't bother going to the Subaru dealer in Exeter. My dad went there to get a CV boot for me and they said they had never seen an SVX and hence did not stock any parts. I don't know about alloys or optimax, but as far as precautions go, the main point of failure is the transmission overheating. There's plenty of information on this site and it's well worth reading. Big wheels!!
Ian
You asked about alloys. Most people like the originals and don't look too hard for upgrades. That said, in the US many change the rims, mainly for cosmetic reasons. One of our members, Kusi in Switzerland, has information on his site about available rims. The stud spacing for the SVX is different from Imprezas, so forget about that route. Also the offset is unusual, but not impossible to get. Graham who is fairly near you put on new rims to accommodate bigger brakes, a very good reason to depart from the standard rim. There are some photos in my locker, the rims looked great on his Pearl White, here is a picture: Graham's Comptomotive rims Cheers Joe

Have fun!!!
Glad you got the car. Enjoy. Don't forget what Phil said, if the autobox does not have an additional cooler, put one on it. Not too expensive, and you will be needing it if you are going to be "pushing" it at the weekends. Joe
