Part question

This ones for a smart part guy or gal. I need to know what part something is.

To describe: its under the hood, if your facing the car looking under the hood its in the lower left hand side. Its not under anything its glaring right at you. Its a cylendar(sp) about 3 1/2 inches in diameter with 2 hoses coming out of it.

One of the nozzles that holds the hoze broke, and the hose coming off of it tore and I need to replace it.

If anyone knows what part I'm referring to that'd be great and, maybe like if they know wether or not I should be driving with it broken... that'd be good too

Thanks
I dont post much but I'd like to say this forum rocks.

tfuller, don't be a stranger. Pitch in when you can.

I believe you're talking about the fuel evaporation canister (see attached photo). It's part of your emissions control system and won't hurt if you run for a little while with the nozzle broken, but, fix it as soon as you can.

I have a used canister I'll give you for free if you PM me with your mailing address. I can probably throw in some tubing as well.

Yup thats the part. One of my nozzle's is busted, looks like it got hit by something heavy. I blame my mechanic since I dont play with heavy objects much under the hood lately. I found the hose just dangling there this morning, much to my suprise. Owell, thats the joy of owning my SVX, its always something .

Once again, thanks a bunch.

Why does mine have a filter on the canister? Is it a filter?

I've heard of this, but don't remember seeing it. Neither of my 92s has it, and I don't remember seeing it on another SVX, but, usually, when a hood is open, I only pretend to be looking -- if you've seen one . . . .

Perhaps this was an add-on in the later models. Anyone?

It's a check valve. The 1994 and later models have it. I would imagine it has to do with changing emissions standards throughout the years.
