drag on engine and bearings sound

Hey guys, I need some of your expert advice. I just bought my 92 LS-L a few weeks ago and seemed to have no problems. For the past week, there has been a strange humming sound coming from the engine bay (kind of like bearings). The engine runs the same except when I give it more gas, the engine seems willing, but it feels like something is holding it back. It seems like one of the accessories is lugging the engine. Does that make any sense? Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,
Matt.

Bubbles, foaming of steering fluid? O-Ring comes to mind (do a search).

bubbles, do you mean if you take off the filler cap?

i have read some posts about the o-ring but it sounds like they are having problems when steering (my steering seems flawless) but the pump itself (or something near it) is causing the loud engine sound and the word dragging is the best to describe it. You know how you feel a loss of power when the AC is on? But this is much worse, very noticable. The o-ring is a cheap fix, maybe I should replace it anyway...

Steering fluid aeration due to leaking o-ring will create loud whining noise. Steering effort may not be significantly affected, at least initially.

Re dragging - you can take the drive belt off and see if you still experience the drag. A/C on/off is not noticeable in this car.
Put it this way, the engine is big enough - if steering pump or alternator were dragging itself, you would have cooked them in now time. I mean overheated, burnted - lots of power translates to lots of heat.
