Sheesh.
That is not the issue. Everybody makes mistakes and can post something that's not correct. The issue is that he keeps posting bad information over and over. People come here and ask questions, and Conn posts the wrong answers very often. I just wish he would make sure he knows what he's talking about before he creates confusion.

A perfect example is when someone posted that their fans weren't working and he responded and told them to check their "fan sensor" near the bottom of the radiator. Thankfully people responded and set him straight before the OP spent hours looking for something that doesn't exist.

Very true. Mistakes can happen, and that's fine, but as Mike said, it's been consistently incorrect or misinformation. If someone is in a bind, and someone responds with misinformation. That person will go buy something ASAP to fix something that someone told them would fix it, and doesn't. That person then becomes unhappy with the car AND the forum. This is not a good situation for the community should this happen.

Re: "stop lamp" light

Thank you all for the help. I will try replacing all 4 bulbs first if that is not it I will replace the relay. I saw an older post from 2005 quoting the part number for the checker relay located in trunk. I did a Goolgle search but found nothing. Any leads on where to find it?

Thanks again

Re: "stop lamp" light

.

The stop lamp checker is located in the right side in the trunk, behind the carpeted panel, in front of the rear washer fluid reservoir. The design and mounting is such that if water gets into this area the checker relay acts as a reservoir to collect and hold water.

Relay replacement is a simple 1 plug/ 1 screw operation.

Part No. 88081PA000 ...Cost of the part is about $36.74

Explanation of this circuit

The rear stop light sensor works by separating the stop lamps into two circuits, each with two bulbs. The two center panel lights are one circuit and the two outside lights are the other.

The two circuits each go into a sensor and each current draw is measured. If it is not in balance (ie, one circuit has two bulbs, the other only has one working) the "stop lamp" on the dash comes on.

The manual tells you the only "fooled" instance. If one bulb from the center panel is burned out and one bulb on an outer light is burned out, the "stop lamp" indicator will not come on.

It has a fail-safe provision so if all four bulbs are burned out (zero current flow) it triggers the light.

If you put higher wattage bulbs in the center panel but regular bulbs in the outer lights, the imbalance will trigger an indicator even though all four bulbs light.

UPDATE

If you replace your tail/brake lights with LEDs, the light will trigger because the LEDs use next to no current, so the sensor thinks all four bulbs are burned out.

There is also a manual key release tab on the steering column. Under the column there are some holes, inside one of them is a small brass colored tab. Push that up or to the side and you should be able to get your key out.
This statement on this form cost me hours and I almost ripped my steering column apart. None of the EXPERTS came forth to help. Sat in a parking lot with the key on for the whole day. I from now on promise NOT to answer ANY Questions on this forum or give any advice BTW none of the ADVICE I gave cost any member money.........

Thank you for the courtesy of not attributing the "incorrect" quote to me.

But the information that I gave about the key release is accurate. I just went out to verify and take a picture. Sorry that I didn't go through the extra effort to take a picture before, but I thought that it would be easy enough to find and I didn't think it would cause hours of frustration.

Re: "stop lamp" light

I found it I tried it . The key was in the ACC position and it will not come out in that position. It was a good answer and I thank u for trying . I noticed this Question came up in the search 4 or 5 times. None corrected my problem.

That comment regarding the key release is EXACTLY right. There's no misinformation in there at all.

Re: "stop lamp" light

The problem was I could not turn the car off completely. Removing the key would still leave the car in the ACC position. And I tried for 1/2 to move that button in the ACC position.

I am unfamiliar with exactly how this all works, but it might be possible that it would not work with the key in the ASS position since I am not sure the key would ever come out from the ASS position if things are working normal... The key does come out from the off position with the metal tab described on the graphic.

I am thinking that something strange occurs when the car isn't in the park position with removing the key. I thought that was designed to only help my wife, but it might be for others also!
And... thanks for taking the picture, Hocrest. I will save it!

Keith
