Happy 2009 - Another new SVX owner (92)

Hi Folks, After owning an SVX in New Zealand ( a long sought after and much loved auto) I've finally landed a new one here, merry christmas to me

Im picking it up on friday the 2nd, and driving it back home about 450km where I intend on babying it like no other car. I was wondering if anyone has a 3rd party fix or knows a trick regarding the debris catching filter in the transmission, thats certainly something I wouldn't want to have to replace !

Also on the search for a rear wrap-around wing, as the car does not have one. I don't have a head-unit in it, but I intend on building a carpc for it, I have a couple ideas in mind, thinking of starting with a voompc mini-itx enclosure surrounding an intel 945 gclf atom board, and placing a 7" touchscreen into the double din head unit. I make my own macs, and am very familiar with OSX, so I'd run Plex as the front-end

Brando.com has some very nice tiny usb keyboards, wouldn't make any sense in having a full size mouse and keyboard shoved under the seat.

I would replace the transmission fluids and filter when you get it home. Also get an external filter for it for even more filtering.

So heres my story - This weekend I went down to Vancouver to get the car, met up with the current owner, an extremely nice guy. The car was imported here in 2006 from japan and has pretty much been sitting in a warehouse since.

The car had been towed across the city to a detailer, who unfortunately was swamped working on new hondas to be able to get to it, we got there and the car was unable to start. Thankfully there was already a rolling mechanic on scene who tried to get it going, went all through the system, checked all the fuses, got the car to turn over and start but only on ether. No fuel through the lines, so most likely just no pressure in the fuel pump itself, I guess the car hadn't been started in about 7 months.

The mechanic couldn't get access to the fuel tank to bang on it, and since the detailers hadn't gotten to it I decided to come home empty handed. On monday we're going to have the car towed to a subie specialist very close to where the detailers are now and weather permitting we'll be able to complete the swap this coming weekend.

I take it this is a car that one of the members here, ed steele was trying to acquire for a long time, I suppose that getting it across the border just was a task that couldn't be completed.

I didn't get a chance to grab the vin/registration, but I am really excited to get this car, I had one nearly exactly like it when I lived overseas and cant wait to have it sitting in my garage.

Wow Red, I just went through your build/resto and you did an utterly fantastic job on the work/paint on your Barcelona.. it really looks like a showroom car.

The one I am getting has a small impact hit / scuff on the right rear quarter panel when it was hit by a door, and on the left rear quarterpanel is a small circle of rust I need to immediately take care of.

Where is Reading ?
I'm still flowing through the posts here on svx-world.net to make sure i'm up to date on all the posts, i'm getting into the meets now

I see Michael sold it out from under me. I have invested much time and effort to get that car and he zapped me good. I have purchesed the JDM spoiler, head unit as well as other equipment while waiting for him to get things done so I could bring it home. He was working on the paperwork so I could bring it home. I have worked over a year to get this finalized. I am not very happy about this news.

oh, i really had no idea about that, he touched on it about how the paperwork couldnt be done, and that getting the vehicle across the border was difficult.

I didn't intend on scooping it from you, theres no money changing hands between him and I as I am not a rich fellow, this is just a car I've been wanting to have for quite some time, and I intend to take very good care of it.

Can I ask how much the spoiler was? I could maybe get some money together and take it off your hands...

I have around $800+ in parts that I purchased for this car. It was broken into while he had it and I helped get the window replaced, cleaned up the trunk which was a BIG mess, etc. Over a year later, hours of work with the border authorities, a call to Japan, and he sold it without even telling me. I talked to him not long ago, so I don't know what happened. I am not a happy camper.

Hmm.. well I answered his craigslist ad last week, and everything seemed a go, what did you need to get the car into the US? Was it something directly from Subaru Japan?

As I say no money changing hands, I'm not sure of the specifics of your deal with Michael, but I am swapping a vehicle for the SVX. I drove down there this friday with it, as its overkill for the wife and I, but something he needs, a people carrier.

What parts have you got for it? I'd definately be interested in the wing at some point, the JDM stereo, maybe - I was intending on putting in a carpc and using the double-din socket for a touchscreen. - The car is really dusty, it looks like it hasn't been touched in awhile, Michael said its been sitting for 7 months now and there is still some broken glass from the window inside.

You already have ~16 of these right? What do you do with them?

No hard feeling here towards you. I am quite dissapointed in Michael though. He has not done much over the last 7 months to help get the car across the boarder.
