Rust Check Rust Converter
Now I have never been a fan of "miracle cure" products. As far as I'm concerned, when something isn't good anymore, it needs fixing, not some potion poured on it to make it all nice again. But in this case I was proven at least a bit wrong.
I was washing/waxing my car last week in preparation for winter (I will also add that Meguires NXT Tech Wax is incredible stuff. And smells great too!) and I noticed a spot of rust forming on the body by the gas door. I had hit that spot of the car last year while removing a shovel from the garage (ya, I know.....) and chipped the paint down to metal. When I saw a bit of surface rust starting I get a little more ticked off, but remembered a bottle of this "Rust Check Rust Converter" stuff I'd seen. I borrowed it froma friend, soaked a paper towel, and dabbed it on. Not expecting tremendous results I went off to finish cleaning the rest of the car. When I checked back 10-15 minutes later, BARE METAL! Not a trace of the light brown surface rust that had started forming. It won't help heavy rust (I doused my rotting fender corner with the stuff just for fun though) but it will remove surface rust. So if you've got a few chips on the hood from rocks that have a touch of the nasty stuff forming, I strongly reccommend giving this stuff a try. It's only $10 for a bottle, that will last a long time.

Re: Rust Check Rust Converter
Rust converter works by chemically converting rust (iron oxide) into iron phosphate. You will need to put a top coat over it to prevent it from rusting further, but it effectively neutralizes the rust, preventing it from spreading. It's also a component in "etching primer" which is used as a base when painting over bare metal. (The acid in it eats into the metal slightly, helping the primer to get a good "bite" into the metal.) It also neutralizes the rust that you cannot see that forms on bare metal. (Rust can form in as little as 30 minutes on bare metal, but can take several days before it is visible to the naked eye)

Re: Rust Check Rust Converter
before the svx i used to have a subaru brat. if i used too much of that rust converter my car would have disentegrated. the stuff did work great at stopping the rest of the body from going to hell too fast.
