Argh, these remotes...

...they really are the biggest pieces of crap. Mine don't even get used a lot. My wife bought me a new remote les than five years ago. In that time I've driven my car about 13k miles. So most of the time the remote hangs on the hook, unused.

I just had to solder the antenna wire back onto the antenna in the remote. Before I did, the range was a maximum of about 10ft. Sometimes it didn't even work.

The range is better, but upon putting it back together I noticed that the corners are cracking, which means the case won't stay together much longer.

These things really do suck. Does anybody know if the remotes from another Subaru model work? Does anybody know who manufactures these things? Maybe another car from another namplate uses a similar system with compatible remotes that don't fall apart.

Actually, it looks like Jaguar might have used the same system. Well that explains that - at least the Jaguar influence stops at the remote.

That site sells remotes that are apparently compatible. For $40 I think I'll give it a try. They may not say 'SVX' on them, but that's a small price to pay if they work.

You're totally right. I hate htem. I want to get an aftermarket remote system but I haven't been able to find one with the 'class' that hte SVX deserves. They either feel cheap and generic or cheap and boy racerish. :\

Oh, I don't want to install an aftermarket keyless system. I just want to replace the remote. I'll have to order the one I posted about above and let everybody know how it works out.

I use the one they sold on ebay that looks like an updated model from the case.

The distance is identical to OEM. No improvement besides the looks.

I have a pair of the keylessride remotes and they work perfectly.

They are smaller, thinner and seem to be so much better constructed and sturdier than the stock remote, using a better grade of plastic. The neoprene gasket that goes around the perimeter between the two halves make it much more water resistant as well.

I cursed her as a philistine and immediately cast the remote into a desk drawer where it has remained for the last 2 years.

No idea if it works or not but I guess it should?

In the meantime stevebsy hooked me up with a sweet svx remote that was in pretty good condition

Cool, that's exactly what I was hoping for. I don't care much about the remote's range - I mean, I still have to walk to the car anyway. It's not like the remote summons the car.

It's the construction of the remote that pisses me off. It's a cheap piece of crap.

Agreed.

Mine has fallen apart numerous times this year because of the case corners being worn down.

I think I might get a few of the $39 aftermarket ones to see how they do.

i've put minor scratch on the car near the keyhole. plus locking the car with the key is a pain. i haven't had to do that since 1992.

I never lock mine with the key....you push the lock down inside and when you close the door you shut the door with the handle up....I've always done that with all my subaru's.
