This car is available in the Gulf area and in my country also. It is called Chevrolet Lumina SS. My friend came like two years ago from Florida, and while we were cruising the highway he saw one, he was , he told me he never saw such a car in the States...

You're going to tell Danny about models sold in his country?

I'm not saying he can't be wrong, but understand that the same model often gets called different things in different countries. It's absolutely believable that the GTO is called a Lumina in Lebanon. In Australia it's a Holden Monaro and in Europe it's a Vauxhall.

i like the philosophy behind the holden, but the body doesnt say "GTO". it doesnt capture the nostalgia (sp can kiss it) of the old fire breathing, kick in the pants cars. i dont know, i dislike the charger and magnum as well.

Which is why they're going to end production and build a new GTO from the ground up.

Personally, thats the reason I LIKE this GTO, because it's very un-American looking. It is built in Australia after all...

Nice car. One of the few the General does right. I test drove a Charger SRT-8 Daytona in full yellow with black hockey stripe. It was an auto, but wow!

I've said it before and i'll say it again, the only thing wrong with the new GTO is it's name. They should have called it a G8 and no one would be complaining. Oh well.

Note about the "Monaro" GTO...I agree that the Monaro looks way better all around than the GTO...but don't think you're going to buy a US made GTO and order the Monaro body panels to make yours a Monaro. I know two guys who did it, both spent well over $12,000 complete. That's just not worth it. Best bet is to order the "SAP" (ground effects) package and the "Autocross Grilles" which Alan mentioned a few posts back. Change out the wheels for some aftermarket pieces, or even the optional GM 18 inchers. You'll have cured most of the GTO's looks problems at that point, for way less than $12,000. Granted you won't get those "what the heck is that thing?!" looks, but i think you could make up for that with the plethora of go fast goodies available for the LS-series motors these days.

Just like I always say when I hear GTO-knockers talking - go drive it, then talk. The car has one heck of a knack for turning even the deepest skeptics into believers.

Good to see you back, Shadow. We were getting a little too high on our jap cars lately.

Really?? Everyone here has a sneaky suspicion of how I regard GM (God's Mistake), but, putting that aside, these pix look a lot like a last-gen' Mustang (dare I say Escort?)/Honda/Mazda front end with a Cavalier roof to me. It doesn't even seem to have the Japanese-attempt-to-be-American look.

the look is very avant-garde. my neighbor has a red one, it just seems very bulbus. i look at it, and my brain tells me its got a big @ss engine and that it is very fast, but i can help but think that it looks slow. it kind of reminds me of a downsized comaro. a while back i got passed by one on rt50 and i almost had a stroke. my brain couldn't handle a car that looks like that producing the sound of a LS. i just can see it going fast, but i know it can. god this hurts my mind. why cant they make a sports car that both looks fast and IS fast.

however, i am all about some new zo6 action. that is one sweet ride.
