i dont take offense at all. I was looking at prices at for all seals, rings, and bearings it looks to be about $1000. Buying an engine with over 100k on it seems to be almost 1000 shipped so Im just weighing my options. Id feel alot more content with a fresh engine.

but who would rebuild the engine?? it will rake more than just parts including getting the block/heads milled. glaze broken... etc

im sure Id have to pay big money to get it rebuilt because I dont know anyone with the ability to do so in a timely manner. I might be able to chug through it slowly over the summer. The only real issue is that I dont need the car at all as a dd from may to the end of august. But after august It would be a huge struggle if anything did happen, and Id like to have a fresh car by then.

I appreciate this input. Criticism is always good so i know what im getting into or avoiding a rock and a hard place.

Tom- why would the heads need to be milled?

anytime you seperate the heads from the engine it is a good idea to get them milled to prevent premature HG failure

By getting the glaze broken are you referring to splitting the block to expose the crank?

no i mean honing the cylinder walls. if they are in good shape then all you need is a honing. if they are bad(gouged(sp?)) then you will need to scrap the block or sleeve it.

oh ok. I was just planning on having to have it honed. If the cylinder walls were badly damaged wouldnt I be losing noticeable compression?

Does splitting the block require any specialty tools?

Im thinking it would not be a bad idea to buy a blown engine (excluding block damage or crank damage) and mess around with it, possibly rebuilt it and replace it.

How much would a blown svx engine run? assuming i could find one

Are there any machine shops in NJ or eastern PA that have experience with Boxer engines?

And would it be a good idea to mill the block to for the same reason you mill the heads?

err read that up there then i saw where you said a 5mt. the 5mt failed due to power... and the stock motor has more power(torque) then a 5mt can handle imo.
