Yesterday afternoon Rosie and I were in SUBYDOO on some back roads in the Concodville - Chadsford area of PA. We were having some fun with some spirited driving. I was going around a left hand curve when all of a sudden there was a loud pop then 'thumpeta, thumpeta, thumpeta' from the right side. I immediately pulled on the grassy verge and stopped . We both got out and looked. Both tires on the passenger side were unseated from the rims and flat.
I called for a flat bed tow truck. It came approx. 1 1/2 hrs. later.
While we were waiting for it, We walked back to the curve to see what happened. The edge of the road had given way. A piece of the asphalt about 4' L x 1 1/2 W was sunken about 8". The front edge of the remaining area must have unseated the tire bead from the rims. The recent rains must have softened the underbase of the road on the inside edge of the turn. We were lucky. With the tires totally deflated he car handled staright & true, was totally controllable and easily came to a stop.

When we we loading the car on the tow truck, I inspected the rims & tires. They were in good shape. The rims were not even scratched and the tires lood good. I had us towed to a gas station that works for Tire Rack. I should get the car back tonight.

I thankful for you two, that it didn't cause a wreck...glad everyone was fine, and that the car didn't sustain any real damage

Last night I took a good look at the two damaged tires and rims. The inside of the rims are badly bent on the tire seating surface. I'm going to get a quote from a good local shop (Sports Car Tires in Wilm. DE.) to see how much it will cost to straighten them. My guess is about $150 each. I don't know if they can fix the front rim which is much worse then the rear one.

They say that you can't take it with you, but at this rate; I'll have to send money back here from the after life.

Thanks Michelle. I also have spare stock rims in the lighter color.
Last night I picked up SUBYDOO ('97 SVX) and drove it home. It is now shod SVX rims & AVS dB S-2 tires from the '92 SVX. I did not drive it far and only a slow speed. So far it does not seem to need an alignment. I will take it up to speed this weekend to check that out.

The two bent '97 rims will be straightened. The cost will be lower than I first surmised. They will be ~$120 each with the tires remounted & balanced. The tires are off the rims and they look good but the only way to tell if the bead was damaged is to reinflate them on the wheels.

I'll keep you posted.

I got the rims back today with the tires mounted on them. They did a great job staightening them. They even painted the inside of the rims on the back lip and under the tires. Suprisingly, the tires are in very good shape.
It cost $140- for each rim, with the tires remounted and balanced .

Good news is you guys were okay, bad news is rims and tires. I suspected a PA road would do some damage to those rims as they did for me in the past. One place to look if you're in a hurry to get replacements is www.car-part.com
